The Ford GT has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The 812 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The GT has standard SYNC®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The 812 doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the GT and the 812 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and available rearview cameras.

The GT’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the 812’s (5 vs. 3 years).

The 812’s redline is at 8900 to 9500 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The GT has a 7000 RPM redline.

The GT has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The 812 doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the car’s engine.

The battery on the GT is in the front fender, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the GT’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The 812’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

The GT’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 20 lbs.-ft. more torque (550 vs. 530) than the 812’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12. The GT’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 40 lbs.-ft. more torque (550 vs. 510) than the 812 Competizione’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12.

The GT has standard air brakes, which adjust the rear spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The 812 doesn’t offer air brakes.

The GT stops much shorter than the 812:

For better traction and acceleration, the GT has larger rear tires than the 812 (325/30R20 vs. 315/35R20).

The GT’s 325/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 812’s standard 35 series tires.

The GT handles at 1.11 G’s, while the 812 Coupe pulls only 1.03 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The GT executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the 812 Coupe (22.7 seconds @ .97 average G’s vs. 23.3 seconds @ .93 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the GT’s turning circle is 1.1 feet tighter than the 812’s (40 feet vs. 41.1 feet).

The GT (except Competition Series) uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The 812 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The GT’s front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The 812’s front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.

The GT’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The 812’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

On a hot day the GT’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the 812 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Intelligent Access standard on the GT allows you to unlock the driver’s door, trunk and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Ferrari 812’s Keyless Start doesn’t unlock the doors or the trunk.
