Compare the2022 Ford GTVS 2022 Aston Martin Vantage

The Ford GT has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Vantage doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The GT has standard SYNC®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Vantage doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the GT and the Vantage have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and available rearview cameras.

There are almost 86 times as many Ford dealers as there are Aston Martin dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GT’s warranty.

The GT has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The Vantage doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the car’s engine.

The GT’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 144 more horsepower (647 vs. 503) and 45 lbs.-ft. more torque (550 vs. 505) than the Vantage’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The GT’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 120 more horsepower (647 vs. 527) and 45 lbs.-ft. more torque (550 vs. 505) than the Vantage F1’s standard 4.0 turbo V8.

As tested in Motor Trend the Ford GT is faster than the Aston Martin Vantage 4.0:

The GT has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Vantage doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The GT offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The Vantage doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The GT’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Vantage doesn’t offer launch control.

The GT has standard air brakes, which adjust the rear spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The Vantage doesn’t offer air brakes.

The GT stops shorter than the Vantage:

For better traction and acceleration, the GT has larger rear tires than the Vantage (325/30R20 vs. 295/35R20).

The GT’s 245/35R20 front and 325/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Vantage’s standard 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the GT is 1.1 inches wider in the front and .6 inches wider in the rear than on the Vantage.

The GT handles at 1.11 G’s, while the Vantage Coupe pulls only .99 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The GT executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.3 seconds quicker than the Vantage Coupe (22.7 seconds @ .97 average G’s vs. 24 seconds @ .83 average G’s).

The Ford GT may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 500 pounds less than the Aston Martin Vantage.

The GT (except Competition Series) uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Vantage doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The GT’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Vantage does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The GT’s front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Vantage’s power windows’ switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

The GT was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2018. The Vantage has never been an “All Star.”
