Compare the2022 Toyota C-HRVS 2022 Lexus UX

Both the C-HR and the UX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Toyota C-HR is safer than the Lexus UX:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Toyota C-HR is safer than the Lexus UX:

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the C-HR for 1 year and 15000 miles longer than Lexus pays for maintenance for the UX (2/25000 vs. 1/10,000).

There are over 5 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Lexus dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the C-HR’s warranty.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Lexus vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota second in reliability. Lexus is ranked third.

The C-HR has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the UX Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (13.2 vs. 10.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The C-HR stops much shorter than the UX:

The C-HR has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the UX; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

The C-HR Limited handles at .81 G’s, while the UX 200 Luxury pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The C-HR is 4.4 inches shorter than the UX, making the C-HR easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The C-HR has .9 inches more front headroom, 1.5 inches more front legroom and 2 inches more rear headroom than the UX.

The C-HR has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the UX (19.1 vs. 17.1 cubic feet).

The power windows standard on both the C-HR and the UX have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the C-HR is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The UX prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

Consumer Reports rated the C-HR’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the UX’s headlights, which were rated “Good.”

Insurance will cost less for the C-HR owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the C-HR will cost $30 to $1450 less than the UX over a five-year period.

The C-HR will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the C-HR will retain 56.66% to 57.4% of its original price after five years, while the UX only retains 49.41% to 50.6%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Toyota C-HR will be $11439 to $12289 less than for the Lexus UX.

The Toyota C-HR outsold the Lexus UX by over two to one during the 2021 model year.
