The ID.4’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The I-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Volkswagen ID.4 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The ID.4 has a standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The ID.4 has standard Maneuver Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the ID.4 and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the ID.4 its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2021, a rating granted to only 76 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The I-Pace has not been tested, yet.

Volkswagen’s powertrain warranty covers the ID.4 3 years and 40,000 miles longer than Jaguar covers the I-Pace. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the I-Pace ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The ID.4’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the I-Pace’s (7 vs. 6 years).

There are almost 4 times as many Volkswagen dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the ID.4’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Volkswagen vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. With 23 more problems per 100 vehicles, J.D. Power ranks Volkswagen above Jaguar in reliability.

On the EPA test cycle the ID.4 gets better mileage than the I-Pace:

The ID.4’s maximum EPA estimated driving range is 245 to 280 miles on a full charge (depending on model), up to 26% further than the I-Pace’s 222-mile range.

For better stopping power the ID.4 AWD’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the I-Pace:

For better traction and acceleration, the ID.4 has larger rear tires than the I-Pace (255/50R19 vs. 245/50R20).

For better maneuverability, the ID.4’s turning circle is 9 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (31.5 feet vs. 40.5 feet). The ID.4 AWD’s turning circle is 4.1 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (36.42 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

The Volkswagen ID.4 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 200 pounds less than the Jaguar I-Pace.

The ID.4 is 3.8 inches shorter than the I-Pace, making the ID.4 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The ID.4 has .7 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front legroom, 2.6 inches more rear legroom and 1.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

The ID.4 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the I-Pace with its rear seat up (30.3 vs. 25.3 cubic feet). The ID.4 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the I-Pace with its rear seat folded (64.2 vs. 53.6 cubic feet).

The ID.4’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the I-Pace’s (2200 vs. 1653 pounds).

Standard trailer stability control on the ID.4 uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The I-Pace doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the ID.4 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the I-Pace.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the ID.4 has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the ID.4 Pro S has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The I-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights. The ID.4 Pro S also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The ID.4 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the I-Pace.

The ID.4 Pro S has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the I-Pace.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Volkswagen ID.4 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the I-Pace.

The ID.4 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

The Volkswagen ID.4 outsold the Jaguar I-Pace by over 10 to one during the 2021 model year.
