For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Kia EV6 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Chevrolet Bolt doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the EV6 and Bolt have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The EV6 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Bolt’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The EV6 offers optional Parking Collision-Avoidance Reverse that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Bolt doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The EV6 has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Bolt doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The EV6 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the Bolt’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the EV6 has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the Bolt.

The EV6’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Bolt doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the EV6 and the Bolt have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and available around view monitors.

The Kia EV6 weighs 428 to 950 pounds more than the Chevrolet Bolt. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The EV6 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Bolt’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the EV6 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Chevrolet covers the Bolt. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Bolt ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are better in initial quality than Chevrolet vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia 6th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 4 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chevrolet is ranked 10th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia third in reliability, above the industry average. With 18 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chevrolet is ranked 12th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Kia 2 places higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

Engine

The EV6 Wind/GT-Line’s standard electric motor produces 25 more horsepower (225 vs. 200) than the Bolt’s electric motor. The EV6’s optional electric motors produces 120 more horsepower (320 vs. 200) and 180 lbs.-ft. more torque (446 vs. 266) than the Bolt’s electric motor.

Fuel Economy and Range

The EV6 Wind/GT-Line’s maximum EPA estimated driving range is 274 to 310 miles on a full charge, up to 20% further than the Bolt’s 259-mile range.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the EV6’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Bolt:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the EV6 has larger tires than the Bolt (235/45R20 vs. 215/50R17).

The EV6’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Bolt’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EV6 has standard 19-inch wheels. Only 17-inch wheels are available on the Bolt. The EV6 offers optional 20-inch wheels.

Suspension and Handling

For superior ride and handling, the Kia EV6 has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Chevrolet Bolt has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the EV6’s wheelbase is 11.8 inches longer than on the Bolt (114.2 inches vs. 102.4 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the EV6 is 5 inches wider in the front and 5.4 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Bolt.

For greater off-road capability the EV6 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Bolt (6.1 vs. 5.4 inches), allowing the EV6 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Passenger Space

The EV6 has 9.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Bolt (103 vs. 93.9).

The EV6 has 3.6 inches more front hip room, 3.1 inches more front shoulder room, .1 inches more rear headroom, 3.4 inches more rear legroom, 2.6 inches more rear hip room and 2.8 inches more rear shoulder room than the Bolt.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EV6’s rear seats recline. The Bolt’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The EV6 has a much larger cargo volume than the Bolt with its rear seat up (24.4 vs. 16.6 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the EV6 easier. The EV6’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 28.6 inches, while the Bolt’s liftover is 30 inches.

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the EV6’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Bolt doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, just waiting momentarily behind the back bumper can open the EV6 Wind/GT-Line/1st Edition’s power liftgate, leaving your hands completely free. The EV6’s power liftgate can also be opened or closed by pressing a button. The Bolt doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening liftgate.

Towing

The EV6 offers up to a 2300 lbs. towing capacity. The Bolt has no towing capacity.

Ergonomics

When two different drivers share the EV6, the memory seats and mirrors make it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position and outside mirror angle. The Bolt doesn’t offer a memory system.

The EV6 offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Bolt doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The EV6 GT-Line/1st Edition’s front power windows both open or close with one touch of the switches. The Bolt’s front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.

The EV6 has a standard locking charge port door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage to the charging system. The Bolt doesn’t offer a locking charge port.

The EV6’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Bolt’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the EV6 Wind/GT-Line/1st Edition keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Bolt doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

Both the EV6 and the Bolt offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the EV6 has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The Bolt doesn’t offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Kia EV6 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Bolt Premier offers wireless charging and it costs extra.

The EV6 has a 115-volt a/c outlet, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Bolt doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The EV6 (except Light)’s optional Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Bolt doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
