Compare the2022 McLaren 720SVS 2021 Lamborghini Aventador

The 720S offers an optional 360 Degree Park Assist to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Aventador only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the 720S and the Aventador have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 61 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 507) than the Aventador S’ standard 6.5 DOHC V12. The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 531) than the Aventador SVJ’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12.

Both the 720S and the Aventador have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All 720Ss have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The 720S has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Aventador doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the McLaren 720S higher (3 out of 10) than the Lamborghini Aventador (1). This means the 720S produces up to 22.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Aventador every 15,000 miles.

The 720S has standard air brakes, which adjust the rear spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The Aventador doesn’t offer air brakes.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The 720S has a standard brake assist system to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The Aventador doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

The 720S stops much shorter than the Aventador:

The 720S offers an optional automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Aventador doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The 720S Coupe handles at 1.10 G’s, while the Aventador S pulls only 1.04 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The 720S Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Aventador S (22.3 seconds @ 1.05 average G’s vs. 23.1 seconds @ .92 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the 720S’ turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the Aventador’s (39.7 feet vs. 41 feet).

The McLaren 720S may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 350 pounds less than the Lamborghini Aventador.

The 720S is 10 inches shorter than the Aventador, making the 720S easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces. The 720S is 1 foot, 3.7 inches shorter than the Aventador SVJ.

The 720S is 5.3 inches narrower on average than the Aventador, making the 720S easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The 720S’ standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The Aventador doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

The 720S Coupe has a much larger trunk than the Aventador (12.7 vs. 5.2 cubic feet).

The 720S Spider has a much larger trunk with its top down than the Aventador Roadster (7.3 vs. 5.2 cubic feet).

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the 720S to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Lamborghini doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Aventador.

When two different drivers share the 720S, the optional memory system makes it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver and front passenger’s seat positions, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle. The Aventador doesn’t offer a memory system.

The 720S’ optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Aventador doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The 720S’ standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Aventador’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

In case of a sudden change of weather, the 720S Spider has a standard remote convertible top that can be raised from a distance to protect the interior of the vehicle from damage. On a hot day the 720S Spider has a standard remote opening feature, to lower the top from outside. The Aventador doesn’t offer a remote top, so the driver will have to run to the car, get in and manually raise the top to prevent the interior from being damaged.

When the 720S is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Aventador’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The 720S’ standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The Aventador doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

The 720S was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2018. The Aventador has never been an “All Star.”
