Compare the2022 McLaren 720SVS 2021 Ford GT

The 720S has standard front seat side-impact airbags and head airbags, which act as a forgiving barrier between the passengers and the door. Combined with high-strength steel door beams this system increases protection from broadside collisions. The GT doesn't offer side-impact airbags or side airbag protection for the head.

The 720S offers an optional 360 Degree Park Assist to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The GT only offers a rear monitor.

Both the 720S and the GT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The 720S’ corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the GT’s (10 vs. 5 years).

The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 50 more horsepower (710 vs. 660) and 18 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 550) than the GT’s 3.5 turbo V6.

As tested in Motor Trend the McLaren 720S is faster than the Ford GT:

In a Motor Trend race course test, the McLaren 720S Coupe was clocked 1.94 seconds faster than the Ford GT (81.75 sec. vs. 83.69 sec.).

On the EPA test cycle the 720S gets better fuel mileage than the GT (15 city/22 hwy vs. 12 city/18 hwy).

In heavy traffic or at stop lights the 720S’ engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The GT doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The 720S has 3.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the GT (19 vs. 15.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The 720S stops much shorter than the GT:

The front and rear suspension of the 720S uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the GT, which uses torsion bars in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The 720S has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The GT doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The 720S Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the GT (22.3 seconds @ 1.05 average G’s vs. 22.7 seconds @ .97 average G’s).

The McLaren 720S may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 100 to 200 pounds less than the Ford GT.

The 720S is 8.6 inches shorter than the GT, making the 720S easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The 720S’ standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The GT doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the 720S Coupe is quieter than the GT:

The 720S has 5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the GT (48 vs. 43).

The 720S Coupe has a much larger trunk than the GT (12.7 vs. .4 cubic feet).

A standard locking center console keeps your small valuables safer in the 720S. The GT doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The 720S offers an optional under hood light to help in making nighttime maintenance checks, adding fluids, etc. The GT doesn’t offer an under hood light.

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the 720S to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Ford doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the GT.

When two different drivers share the 720S, the optional memory system makes it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver and front passenger’s seat positions, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle. The GT doesn’t offer a memory system.

The 720S’ optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The GT doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

If the windows are left open on the 720S the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the GT can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The 720S’ rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The GT’s intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

The 720S’ standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. The GT doesn’t offer heated side mirrors.

When the 720S is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The GT’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The 720S’ standard rear view mirror has an automatic dimming feature. This mirror can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on it, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The GT doesn’t offer the luxury of an automatic dimming rear view mirror.

The 720S offers optional heated front seats, which keep the driver and front passenger extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated seats aren’t available in the GT.

The 720S’ standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The GT doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

The McLaren 720S comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Ford GT isn’t available as a convertible.
