Compare the2022 McLaren 720SVS 2021 Bugatti Chiron

The McLaren 720S has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Chiron doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the 720S and the Chiron have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available around view monitors.

On the EPA test cycle the 720S gets better mileage than the Chiron:

In heavy traffic or at stop lights the 720S’ engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Chiron doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The 720S has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Chiron doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the McLaren 720S higher (3 out of 10) than the Bugatti Chiron (1). This means the 720S produces up to 22.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Chiron every 15,000 miles.

The 720S stops much shorter than the Chiron:

The 720S Coupe handles at 1.10 G’s, while the Chiron Sport pulls only 1.06 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the 720S’ turning circle is 10.1 feet tighter than the Chiron’s (39.7 feet vs. 49.8 feet).

The McLaren 720S may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1050 to 1150 pounds less than the Bugatti Chiron.

The 720S’ standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The Chiron doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

The 720S Coupe has a much larger trunk than the Chiron (12.7 vs. 2 cubic feet).

The 720S’ rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Chiron’s

The 720S’ standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The Chiron doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

The 720S’ standard separate stalk mounted cruise control is close at hand. The Chiron’s standard cruise control is on an over-crowded turn signal stalk.

The McLaren 720S comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Bugatti Chiron isn’t available as a convertible.

The 720S was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2018. The Chiron has never been an “All Star.”
