Compare the2022 McLaren 720SVS 2022 Lamborghini Huracán

The 720S offers an optional 360 Degree Park Assist to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Huracán only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the 720S and the Huracán have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 108 more horsepower (710 vs. 602) and 155 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 413) than the Huracán Evo’s standard 5.2 DOHC V10. The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 80 more horsepower (710 vs. 630) and 125 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 443) than the Huracán Evo’s optional 5.2 DOHC V10. The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 79 more horsepower (710 vs. 631) and 151 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 417) than the Huracán STO’s standard 5.2 DOHC V10.

Both the 720S and the Huracán have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All 720Ss have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the McLaren 720S higher (3 out of 10) than the Lamborghini Huracán (1). This means the 720S produces up to 22.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Huracán every 15,000 miles.

For better stopping power the 720S’ brake rotors are larger than those on the Huracán:

The 720S has standard air brakes, which adjust the rear spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The Huracán doesn’t offer air brakes.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The 720S has a standard brake assist system to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The Huracán doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

The 720S stops much shorter than the Huracán:

The 720S’ 305/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Huracán’s standard 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the 720S has standard 20-inch rear wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Huracán.

The 720S offers an optional automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Huracán doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the 720S’ wheelbase is 2 inches longer than on the Huracán (105.1 inches vs. 103.1 inches).

The 720S Coupe handles at 1.10 G’s, while the Huracán Coupe AWD pulls only 1.01 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The 720S Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Huracán Coupe AWD (22.3 seconds @ 1.05 average G’s vs. 23 seconds @ .98 average G’s).

The 720S’ standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The Huracán doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

The 720S Coupe has a much larger trunk than the Huracán Coupe (12.7 vs. 3.5 cubic feet).

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the 720S to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Lamborghini doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Huracán.

When two different drivers share the 720S, the optional memory system makes it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver and front passenger’s seat positions, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle. The Huracán doesn’t offer a memory system.

The 720S’ optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Huracán doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The 720S’ front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Huracán’s power windows’ switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

In case of a sudden change of weather, the 720S Spider has a standard remote convertible top that can be raised from a distance to protect the interior of the vehicle from damage. On a hot day the 720S Spider has a standard remote opening feature, to lower the top from outside. The Huracán doesn’t offer a remote top, so the driver will have to run to the car, get in, turn the ignition on and raise the top to prevent the interior from being damaged.

The 720S’ rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Huracán’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Road and Track performed a comparison test in its December 2017 issue and the McLaren 720S Coupe won out over the Lamborghini Huracán Evo Coupe.

The 720S was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2018. The Huracán hasn’t been picked since 2015.
