Compare the2022 McLaren 720SVS 2022 Ferrari F8

The McLaren 720S has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The F8 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The 720S offers an optional 360 Degree Park Assist to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The F8 only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the 720S and the F8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and daytime running lights.

The 720S’ corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the F8’s (10 vs. 3 years).

As tested in Motor Trend the McLaren 720S is faster than the Ferrari F8:

On the EPA test cycle the 720S gets better fuel mileage than the F8 Tributo (15 city/22 hwy vs. 15 city/19 hwy).

On the EPA test cycle the 720S gets better fuel mileage than the F8 Spider (15 city/22 hwy vs. 15 city/18 hwy).

Both the 720S and the F8 have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All 720Ss have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The 720S has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The F8 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The 720S has standard air brakes, which adjust the rear spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The F8 doesn’t offer air brakes.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The 720S has a standard brake assist system to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The F8 doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

The 720S stops much shorter than the F8:

The 720S offers an optional automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The F8 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The 720S Coupe handles at 1.09 G’s, while the F8 Tributo pulls only 1.06 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The 720S Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the F8 Tributo (22.3 seconds @ 1.05 average G’s vs. 22.8 seconds @ .93 average G’s).

The 720S Coupe has a much larger trunk than the F8 Tributo (12.7 vs. 7.1 cubic feet).

The 720S’ entire steering wheel hub sounds the horn, facilitating hitting the horn in an emergency. The F8 has two small spoke buttons. These buttons can be hard to reach in an emergency.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional in the F8, the 720S offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The 720S’ optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The F8 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The 720S’ front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The F8’s front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.

The 720S’ standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The F8’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

If the windows are left open on the 720S the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the F8 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The 720S offers optional heated front seats, which keep the driver and front passenger extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated seats aren’t available in the F8.

The 720S’ standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The F8’s navigation system doesn’t offer real-time traffic updates.

The 720S was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2018. The F8 hasn’t been picked since 2016.
