The McLaren 720S has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The 812 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The 720S offers an optional 360 Degree Park Assist to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The 812 only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the 720S and the 812 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and daytime running lights.

The 720S’ corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the 812’s (10 vs. 3 years).

The battery on the 720S is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the 720S’ battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The 812’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 38 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 530) than the 812’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12. The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 58 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 510) than the 812 Competizione’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12.

Both the 720S and the 812 have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All 720Ss have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The 720S has standard air brakes, which adjust the rear spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The 812 doesn’t offer air brakes.

The 720S stops much shorter than the 812:

The 720S’ 305/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 812’s standard 35 series tires.

The 720S Coupe handles at 1.09 G’s, while the 812 Coupe pulls only 1.03 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The 720S Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1 seconds quicker than the 812 Coupe (22.3 seconds @ 1.05 average G’s vs. 23.3 seconds @ .93 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the 720S’ turning circle is 1.4 feet tighter than the 812’s (39.7 feet vs. 41.1 feet).

The 720S is shorter than the 812, making the 720S easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces:

The 720S Coupe has a larger trunk than the 812 Coupe (12.7 vs. 12 cubic feet).

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional in the 812, the 720S offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The 720S’ front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The 812’s front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.

The 720S’ standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The 812’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

If the windows are left open on the 720S the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the 812 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Keyless Entry and Start standard on the 720S allows you to unlock the driver’s door and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Ferrari 812’s Keyless Start doesn’t unlock the doors.
