Compare the2022 McLaren 720SVS 2022 Aston Martin Vantage

The McLaren 720S has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Vantage doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the 720S and the Vantage have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and available around view monitors.

The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 207 more horsepower (710 vs. 503) and 63 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 505) than the Vantage’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 183 more horsepower (710 vs. 527) and 63 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 505) than the Vantage F1’s standard 4.0 turbo V8.

As tested in Motor Trend the McLaren 720S is faster than the Aston Martin Vantage 4.0:

In a Motor Trend race course test, the McLaren 720S Coupe was clocked 8.64 seconds faster than the Aston Martin Vantage Coupe (89.78 sec. vs. 98.42 sec.).

Both the 720S and the Vantage have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All 720Ss have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The 720S has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Vantage doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The 720S offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The Vantage doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The 720S’ launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s at 3200 in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Vantage doesn’t offer launch control.

The 720S has standard air brakes, which adjust the rear spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The Vantage doesn’t offer air brakes.

The 720S stops shorter than the Vantage:

For better traction and acceleration, the 720S has larger rear tires than the Vantage (305/30R20 vs. 295/35R20).

The 720S’ 245/35R19 front and 305/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Vantage’s standard 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

The McLaren 720S may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 600 pounds less than the Aston Martin Vantage.

The 720S’ standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The Vantage doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the 720S Coupe is quieter than the Vantage Coupe (75 vs. 77 dB).

The 720S has 1.3 inches more front headroom and .1 inches more front legroom than the Vantage.

The 720S Coupe has a larger trunk than the Vantage Coupe (12.7 vs. 12.2 cubic feet).

With its coupe body style and remote trunk release lockout, the 720S offers cargo security. The Vantage’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

A standard locking center console keeps your small valuables safer in the 720S. The Vantage doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The 720S’ front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Vantage’s power windows’ switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its November 2018 issue and they ranked the McLaren 720S Coupe two places higher than the Aston Martin Vantage Coupe.

The 720S was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2018. The Vantage has never been an “All Star.”
