Compare the2022 McLaren 720SVS 2022 Aston Martin DBS

The McLaren 720S has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The DBS doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Both the 720S and the DBS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available around view monitors.

As tested in Motor Trend the McLaren 720S is faster than the Aston Martin DBS:

On the EPA test cycle the 720S gets better fuel mileage than the DBS (15 city/22 hwy vs. 14 city/22 hwy).

Both the 720S and the DBS have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All 720Ss have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The 720S has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The DBS doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The 720S offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The DBS doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The 720S’ launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s at 3200 in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The DBS doesn’t offer launch control.

The 720S has standard air brakes, which adjust the rear spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The DBS doesn’t offer air brakes.

The 720S stops much shorter than the DBS:

The 720S offers an optional automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The DBS doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The 720S Coupe handles at 1.09 G’s, while the DBS Superleggera Coupe pulls only 1.02 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The 720S Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.3 seconds quicker than the DBS Superleggera Coupe (22.3 seconds @ 1.05 average G’s vs. 23.6 seconds @ .89 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the 720S’ turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the DBS’ (39.7 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The McLaren 720S may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 950 to 1050 pounds less than the Aston Martin DBS.

The 720S is 6.6 inches shorter than the DBS, making the 720S easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The 720S’ standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The DBS doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

The 720S Coupe has a much larger trunk than the DBS Coupe (12.7 vs. 9.5 cubic feet).

With its coupe body style and remote trunk release lockout, the 720S offers cargo security. The DBS’ non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

A standard locking center console keeps your small valuables safer in the 720S. The DBS doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The 720S offers an optional under hood light to help in making nighttime maintenance checks, adding fluids, etc. The DBS doesn’t offer an under hood light.

The 720S was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2018. The DBS has never been an “All Star.”
