Both the 720S and the DB11 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available around view monitors.

Safety
Engine
The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 182 more horsepower (710 vs. 528) and 55 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 513) than the DB11 V8’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The 720S’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 80 more horsepower (710 vs. 630) and 52 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 516) than the DB11 V12’s standard 5.2 turbo V12.
Fuel Economy and Range
On the EPA test cycle the 720S gets better fuel mileage than the DB11 V12 5.2 turbo V12 (15 city/22 hwy vs. 14 city/22 hwy).
Both the 720S and the DB11 have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All 720Ss have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.
The 720S has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The DB11 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.
Transmission
The 720S offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The DB11 doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.
Brakes and Stopping
The 720S has standard heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The DB11 doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.
The 720S has standard air brakes, which adjust the rear spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The DB11 doesn’t offer air brakes.
The 720S stops much shorter than the DB11:

Tires and Wheels
For better traction and acceleration, the 720S has larger rear tires than the DB11 (305/30R20 vs. 295/35R20).
The 720S’ 245/35R19 front and 305/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the DB11’s standard 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.
Suspension and Handling
The 720S offers an optional automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The DB11 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.
The 720S Coupe handles at 1.10 G’s, while the DB11 pulls only .94 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.
The 720S Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.6 seconds quicker than the DB11 (22.3 seconds @ 1.05 average G’s vs. 23.9 seconds @ .84 average G’s).
Chassis
The McLaren 720S may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 750 to 900 pounds less than the Aston Martin DB11.
The 720S is 8.1 inches shorter than the DB11, making the 720S easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.
The 720S’ standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The DB11 doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.
Cargo Capacity
The 720S Coupe has a much larger trunk than the DB11 (12.7 vs. 9.9 cubic feet).
With its coupe body style and remote trunk release lockout, the 720S offers cargo security. The DB11’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.
A standard locking center console keeps your small valuables safer in the 720S. The DB11 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.
Recommendations
The 720S was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2018. The DB11 has never been an “All Star.”
