In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Rogue Sport are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The CX-30 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Rogue Sport has standard Rear Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The CX-30 doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Rogue Sport (except S) offers an optional Around View® Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The CX-30 only offers a rear monitor.

The Rogue Sport has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. Only the CX-30 Select/Preferred/Premium offers a blind spot warning system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Rogue Sport has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Only the CX-30 Select/Preferred/Premium has a rear cross-path warning system.

Both the Rogue Sport and the CX-30 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive and driver alert monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Nissan Rogue Sport is safer than the Mazda CX-30:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH, results indicate that the Nissan Rogue Sport is safer than the Mazda CX-30:

Warranty

There are almost 2 times as many Nissan dealers as there are Mazda dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Rogue Sport’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are better in initial quality than Mazda vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan fifth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 31 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mazda is ranked 23rd, below the industry average.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Rogue Sport 4x4 gets better fuel mileage than the CX-30 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder AWD (24 city/30 hwy vs. 22 city/30 hwy).

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Nissan Rogue Sport uses regular unleaded gasoline. The CX-30 with the 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder engine requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Rogue Sport has 1.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the CX-30 AWD’s standard fuel tank (14.5 vs. 12.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Rogue Sport has a gallon more fuel capacity than the CX-30 FWD’s standard fuel tank (14.5 vs. 13.5 gallons).

Transmission

The Rogue Sport has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The CX-30 doesn’t offer a CVT.

Brakes and Stopping

The Rogue Sport’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the CX-30 are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Rogue Sport SL’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the CX-30 (225/45R19 vs. 215/65R16).

The Rogue Sport S/SV’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the CX-30 2.5 S’ standard 65 series tires. The Rogue Sport SL’s tires have a lower 45 series profile than the CX-30 Select/Preferred/Premium’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Rogue Sport S/SV has standard 17-inch wheels. Smaller 16-inch wheels are standard on the CX-30 2.5 S. The Rogue Sport SL’s 19-inch wheels are larger than the 18-inch wheels on the CX-30 Select/Preferred/Premium.

The Rogue Sport has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The CX-30 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

For superior ride and handling, the Nissan Rogue Sport has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Mazda CX-30 has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

The Rogue Sport has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Rogue Sport flat and controlled during cornering. The CX-30’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

Passenger Space

The Rogue Sport has 1.5 inches more front headroom, 1.1 inches more front legroom, 1 inch more front shoulder room and 2.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the CX-30.

Cargo Capacity

The Rogue Sport has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the CX-30 with its rear seat up (22.9 vs. 20.2 cubic feet). The Rogue Sport has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the CX-30 with its rear seat folded (61.1 vs. 45.2 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Rogue Sport has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the CX-30 only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

The Rogue Sport SV/SL’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. The CX-30 doesn’t offer heated side mirrors.

On extremely cold winter days, the Rogue Sport SV/SL’s standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The CX-30 doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

Recommendations

The Nissan Rogue outsold the Mazda CX-30 by over five to one during the 2021 model year.
