The Rogue Sport’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the XT4.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Rogue Sport has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Only the XT4 Premium Luxury/Sport has a rear cross-path warning system.

The Rogue Sport (except S)’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The XT4 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Rogue Sport and the XT4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Nissan Rogue Sport is safer than the Cadillac XT4:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH, results indicate that the Nissan Rogue Sport is safer than the Cadillac XT4:

Warranty

There are over 22 percent more Nissan dealers than there are Cadillac dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Rogue Sport’s warranty.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Rogue Sport’s reliability 67 points higher than the XT4.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan fifth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 27 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is ranked 22nd, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Nissan 8 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Rogue Sport gets better mileage than the XT4:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Nissan Rogue Sport uses regular unleaded gasoline. The XT4 requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

Transmission

The Rogue Sport has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The XT4 doesn’t offer a CVT.

The Rogue Sport stops shorter than the XT4:

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Rogue Sport’s turning circle is 1.1 feet tighter than the XT4’s (36.9 feet vs. 38 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Rogue Sport has a greater minimum ground clearance than the XT4 (7.4 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the Rogue Sport to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Nissan Rogue Sport may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 400 pounds less than the Cadillac XT4.

The Rogue Sport is 8.3 inches shorter than the XT4, making the Rogue Sport easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Rogue Sport has .2 inches more front headroom and .6 inches more rear shoulder room than the XT4.

Cargo Capacity

The Rogue Sport has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the XT4 with its rear seat up (22.9 vs. 22.5 cubic feet). The Rogue Sport has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the XT4 with its rear seat folded (61.1 vs. 48.9 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

The Rogue Sport has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The XT4 doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends the Nissan Rogue Sport, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Cadillac XT4 isn't recommended.

The Nissan Rogue outsold the Cadillac XT4 by over 19 to one during the 2021 model year.
