Warranty

There are over 4 times as many Honda dealers as there are Lexus dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the HR-V’s warranty.

Reliability

The engine in the HR-V has a single overhead cam for simplicity. The engines in the UX have dual overhead cams, which add to the number of moving parts and the complexity of the cylinder heads.

Fuel Economy and Range

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Honda HR-V uses regular unleaded gasoline. The UX requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The HR-V has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the UX Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (13.2 vs. 10.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

The HR-V stops shorter than the UX:

Tires and Wheels

The HR-V has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the UX; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The HR-V EX-L AWD handles at .84 G’s, while the UX 200 Luxury pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The HR-V EX executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the UX 200 (27.8 seconds @ .61 average G’s vs. 28.2 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

Chassis

The Honda HR-V may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 450 pounds less than the Lexus UX.

The HR-V is 6.6 inches shorter than the UX, making the HR-V easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The HR-V Sport/EX/EX-L uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The UX doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The HR-V has 9.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the UX (100.1 vs. 90.4).

The HR-V has 2.3 inches more front headroom, 1.8 inches more front shoulder room, 2 inches more rear headroom, 6.2 inches more rear legroom and 1.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the UX.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the HR-V’s rear seats recline. The UX’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The HR-V has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the UX (24.3 vs. 17.1 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

Consumer Reports rated the HR-V’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the UX’s headlights, which were rated “Good.”

Economic Advantages

Insurance will cost less for the HR-V owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the HR-V will cost $255 to $1755 less than the UX over a five-year period.

The HR-V will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the HR-V will retain 53.35% to 56.69% of its original price after five years, while the UX only retains 49.41% to 50.6%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Honda HR-V will be $9621 to $11899 less than for the Lexus UX.

Recommendations

The Honda HR-V outsold the Lexus UX by almost seven to one during the 2021 model year.
