Ford’s powertrain warranty covers the Mustang Mach-E 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the XC60. Any repair needed on the motors, controllers, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the XC60 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 11 times as many Ford dealers as there are Volvo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mustang Mach-E’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford 14th in initial quality. With 48 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is ranked 29th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Ford vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford 16th in reliability, above the industry average. With 68 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is ranked 30th.

The Mustang Mach-E’s maximum EPA estimated driving range is 224 to 314 miles on a full charge (depending on model). The XC60 T8 can only travel about 19 miles before it has to start its internal combustion engine.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Ford Mustang Mach-E higher (10 out of 10) than the Volvo XC60 (5 to 7). This means the Mustang Mach-E produces up to 19.8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the XC60 every 15,000 miles.

The front and rear suspension of the Mustang Mach-E uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the XC60, which uses transverse leafs springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Mustang Mach-E’s wheelbase is 4.7 inches longer than on the XC60 (117.5 inches vs. 112.8 inches).

The Mustang Mach-E GT handles at .92 G’s, while the XC60 B6 AWD Inscription pulls only .87 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Mustang Mach-E Premium 4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.1 seconds quicker than the XC60 B5 AWD Momentum (26.2 seconds @ .69 average G’s vs. 27.3 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

The front grille of the Mustang Mach-E uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The XC60 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Mustang Mach-E has 1.8 inches more front legroom and .1 inches more rear legroom than the XC60.

The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the XC60 with its rear seat up (34.4 vs. 21.6 cubic feet). The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the XC60 with its rear seat folded (64.4 vs. 49.8 cubic feet).

The Mustang Mach-E’s optional easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The XC60 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Mustang Mach-E’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The XC60’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Mustang Mach-E’s exterior PIN entry system. The XC60 doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its Volvo On Call can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Mustang Mach-E’s available headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the XC60’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Mustang Mach-E has standard extendable sun visors. The XC60 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the XC60.

The Mustang Mach-E’s optional Active Park Assist 2.0 can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The XC60 R-Design/Inscription’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.
