The AMG GT 4-Door’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The AMG GT 4-Door has a standard Rear Cross Traffic Brake that use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the AMG GT 4-Door. But it costs extra on the Quattroporte.

The AMG GT 4-Door’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the AMG GT 4-Door and the Quattroporte have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available lane departure warning systems.

The AMG GT 4-Door’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the Quattroporte’s (5/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

There are over 3 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the AMG GT 4-Door’s warranty.

On the EPA test cycle the AMG GT 4-Door gets better mileage than the Quattroporte:

Regenerative brakes improve the AMG GT 4-Door’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door higher (6 out of 10) than the Maserati Quattroporte (1 to 3). This means the AMG GT 4-Door produces up to 45.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Quattroporte every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is available on the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Quattroporte.

The AMG GT 4-Door offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction, the AMG GT 4-Door has larger standard tires than the Quattroporte (F:255/45R19 & R:285/40R19 vs. F:245/45R19 & R:275/40R19). The AMG GT 4-Door’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Quattroporte (F:275/35R21 & R:315/30R21 vs. F:245/40R20 & R:285/35R20).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the AMG GT 4-Door is 1.6 inches wider in the front and .8 inches wider in the rear than on the Quattroporte.

The AMG GT 4-Door is 8 inches shorter than the Quattroporte, making the AMG GT 4-Door easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The AMG GT 4-Door has 2.2 inches more front headroom, .4 inches more rear headroom, .8 inches more rear hip room and 1.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the Quattroporte.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Quattroporte, the AMG GT 4-Door has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The AMG GT 4-Door offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the AMG GT 4-Door the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Quattroporte can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the AMG GT 4-Door to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid. Its standard heated washer nozzles will defrost the washer fluid but not the windshield.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the AMG GT 4-Door has standard extendable sun visors. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The AMG GT 4-Door offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Quattroporte.

The AMG GT 4-Door’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
