Compare the2022 BMW X5 MVS 2022 Jaguar F-Pace

The X5 M’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The F-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The BMW X5 M has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The F-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The X5 M has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The X5 M has standard Active Park Distance Control that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The F-Pace doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the X5 M and the F-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The BMW X5 M weighs 1060 to 1440 pounds more than the Jaguar F-Pace. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its available headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the X5 M the rating of “Top Pick” for 2021, a rating granted to only 145 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The F-Pace has not been tested, yet.

The X5 M’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the F-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are almost 2 times as many BMW dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the X5 M’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW 10th in reliability, above the industry average. With 78 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 31st.

The X5 M has more powerful engines than the F-Pace:

The X5 M’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The F-Pace doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the X5 M’s brake rotors are larger than those on the F-Pace:

For better traction, the X5 M has larger tires than the F-Pace (F:295/35R21 & R:315/30R21 vs. 255/55R19). The X5 M’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the F-Pace (F:295/35R21 & R:315/30R21 vs. F:265/45R21 & R:295/40R21).

The X5 M’s 295/35R21 front and 315/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the F-Pace’s standard 55 series tires. The X5 M’s tires are lower profile than the F-Pace SVR’s optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the X5 M has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the F-Pace.

The X5 M has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The F-Pace doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The rear suspension of the X5 M uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the F-Pace, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The X5 M offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Jaguar doesn’t offer an active suspension on the F-Pace.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the X5 M’s wheelbase is 3.9 inches longer than on the F-Pace (117 inches vs. 113.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the X5 M is 2.2 inches wider in the front and 1.3 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the F-Pace.

The front grille of the X5 M uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The F-Pace doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The X5 M has 1.1 inches more front headroom, 2.3 inches more front shoulder room, .9 inches more rear headroom, .2 inches more rear legroom and 2.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the F-Pace.

The X5 M has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the F-Pace with its rear seat up (33.9 vs. 31.5 cubic feet). The X5 M has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the F-Pace with its rear seat folded (72.3 vs. 69.1 cubic feet).

The X5 M’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the tailgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The F-Pace’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that BMW service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks BMW 8th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 13% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 18th.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the F-Pace (except Base), the X5 M has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The X5 M’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the F-Pace, and is not available on all models.

The X5 M’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The F-Pace’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The X5 M has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the X5 M has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The F-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights. The X5 M also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the X5 M has standard extendable sun visors. The F-Pace doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the X5 M to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The F-Pace doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The X5 M has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the F-Pace.

The X5 M’s Parking Assistant Plus can parallel park by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The F-Pace S/R-Dynamic/SVR’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

The BMW X5 outsold the Jaguar F-Pace by over six to one during the 2021 model year.
