Both the GLC Coupe and the Range Rover Evoque have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors and available lane departure warning systems.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are more reliable than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Mercedes 15th in reliability. With 122 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is ranked 33rd.

The GLC Coupe’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 9 more horsepower (255 vs. 246) and 4 lbs.-ft. more torque (273 vs. 269) than the Range Rover Evoque’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

The GLC Coupe’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Range Rover Evoque are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the GLC Coupe’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Range Rover Evoque (F:255/45R20 & R:285/40R20 vs. 245/45R21).

The GLC Coupe’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover Evoque’s standard 60 series tires. The GLC Coupe’s optional 285/40R20 rear tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Range Rover Evoque’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GLC Coupe has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Range Rover Evoque.

The GLC Coupe’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Range Rover Evoque’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The GLC Coupe has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Insurance will cost less for the GLC Coupe owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the GLC Coupe will cost $205 to $1350 less than the Range Rover Evoque over a five-year period.

The GLC Coupe will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the GLC Coupe will retain 52.83% of its original price after five years, while the Range Rover Evoque only retains 49.77% to 51.37%.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the GLC Coupe is less expensive to operate than the Range Rover Evoque because typical repairs cost much less on the GLC Coupe than the Range Rover Evoque, including $178 less for a fuel pump, $121 less for front struts and $238 less for a timing belt/chain.

Motor Trend selected the GLC Coupe as their 2017 Sport Utility of the Year. The Range Rover Evoque has never been chosen.

The Mercedes GLC outsold the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque by over seven to one during the 2021 model year.
