In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Mercedes GLC Coupe higher (6 out of 10) than the Audi Q5 Sportback (5). This means the GLC Coupe produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Q5 Sportback every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes GLC Coupe, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the Q5 Sportback.

Insurance will cost less for the GLC Coupe owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the GLC Coupe will cost $910 to $1770 less than the Q5 Sportback over a five-year period.

The GLC Coupe will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the GLC Coupe will retain 52.83% of its original price after five years, while the Q5 Sportback only retains 47.14% to 47.17%.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the GLC Coupe is less expensive to operate than the Q5 Sportback because typical repairs cost much less on the GLC Coupe than the Q5 Sportback, including $67 less for a muffler, $62 less for a starter, $76 less for a fuel pump and $409 less for a timing belt/chain.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Mercedes GLC Coupe will be $706 to $7536 less than for the Audi Q5 Sportback.
