For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Kia Niro EV are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Niro EV are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Kia Niro EV has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the Niro EV and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available rear parking sensors.

For its top level performance in all IIHS frontal, side, rear impact and roof-crush tests, and with its optional front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Niro EV the rating of “Top Pick” for 2017, a rating granted to only 214 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The I-Pace has not been tested, yet.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the Niro EV 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Jaguar covers the I-Pace. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the I-Pace ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

There are over 4 times as many Kia dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Niro EV’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Niro EV’s reliability 71 points higher than the I-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia 6th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 18 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 19th, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia third in reliability, above the industry average. With 89 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 31st.

On the EPA test cycle the Niro EV gets better mileage than the I-Pace (123 city/102 hwy vs. 80 city/72 hwy MPGe).

The Niro EV’s maximum EPA estimated driving range is 239 miles on a full charge, 8% further than the I-Pace’s 222-mile range.

The Niro EV stops shorter than the I-Pace:

For better maneuverability, the Niro EV’s turning circle is 5.7 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (34.8 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

The Kia Niro EV may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 950 pounds less than the Jaguar I-Pace.

The Niro EV is 1 foot shorter than the I-Pace, making the Niro EV easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Niro EV has .2 inches more front headroom, .8 inches more front legroom, 1 inch more rear legroom and .5 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Niro EV has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Kia Niro EV has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the I-Pace.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Kia Niro EV, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Jaguar I-Pace isn't recommended.
