For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Toyota Venza are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar E-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Venza are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Toyota Venza has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The E-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Venza has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Venza XLE/Limited has standard Rear Automated Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The E-Pace doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Venza has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the E-Pace’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Venza has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the E-Pace.

Both the Venza and the E-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its available headlight’s “Acceptable” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Venza the rating of “Top Pick” for 2021, a rating granted to only 137 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The E-Pace has not been tested, yet.

There are almost 7 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Venza’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Venza’s reliability 42 points higher than the E-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota 13th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 8 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 19th, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 88 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 31st.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Toyota Venza uses regular unleaded gasoline. The E-Pace requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Venza has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a CVT.

The Venza stops much shorter than the E-Pace:

The Venza’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (56% to 44%) than the E-Pace’s (58.7% to 41.3%). This gives the Venza more stable handling and braking.

The Venza Limited executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the E-Pace SE (27.7 seconds @ .62 average G’s vs. 28.4 seconds @ .6 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Venza LE’s turning circle is 2.1 feet tighter than the E-Pace’s (36.1 feet vs. 38.2 feet). The Venza XLE/Limited’s turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the E-Pace’s (37.4 feet vs. 38.2 feet).

The Venza is 5.1 inches narrower than the E-Pace, making the Venza easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The front grille of the Venza uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The E-Pace doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Venza has .2 inches more front headroom, .3 inches more front legroom, 1.3 inches more front shoulder room, .7 inches more rear headroom, 3.5 inches more rear legroom and 1.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the E-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Venza’s rear seats recline. The E-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Venza has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the E-Pace with its rear seat up (28.8 vs. 22.4 cubic feet). The Venza has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the E-Pace with its rear seat folded (55.1 vs. 49.5 cubic feet).

If the windows are left open on the Venza the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Toyota service department.) The driver of the E-Pace can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Venza has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Consumer Reports rated the Venza’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the E-Pace’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Venza has standard extendable sun visors. The E-Pace doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the Venza Limited keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The E-Pace doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

Insurance will cost less for the Venza owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Venza will cost $345 less than the E-Pace over a five-year period.

The Venza will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Venza will retain 56.16% to 56.27% of its original price after five years, while the E-Pace only retains 46.91% to 47.16%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Toyota Venza will be $14760 to $16651 less than for the Jaguar E-Pace.

Consumer Reports® chose the Toyota Venza as its “Top Pick,” the highest scoring vehicle in its category, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Jaguar E-Pace isn't recommended.
