A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Grand Cherokee L Overland/Summit helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The QX60 doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Grand Cherokee L and the QX60 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

Jeep pays for scheduled maintenance on the Grand Cherokee L for 3 years and unlimited miles. Jeep will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance (up to 3 oil changes). Infiniti doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the QX60.

There are almost 12 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Infiniti dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Grand Cherokee L’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are better in initial quality than Infiniti vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jeep 8th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 21 more problems per 100 vehicles, Infiniti is ranked 21st, below the industry average.

The Grand Cherokee L’s optional 5.7 V8 produces 62 more horsepower (357 vs. 295) and 120 lbs.-ft. more torque (390 vs. 270) than the QX60’s 3.5 DOHC V6.

As tested in Motor Trend the Jeep Grand Cherokee L V8 is faster than the Infiniti QX60:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Grand Cherokee L V8’s fuel efficiency. The QX60 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Both the Grand Cherokee L V6 and the QX60 have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All Grand Cherokee L V6s have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L uses regular unleaded gasoline (mid-grade octane recommended with the 5.7 V8 engine for maximum performance). The QX60 requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 5 to 40 cents more per gallon.

The Grand Cherokee L has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The QX60 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Grand Cherokee L stops shorter than the QX60:

For better traction, the Grand Cherokee L has larger standard tires than the QX60 (265/60R18 vs. 255/50R20). The Grand Cherokee L Summit’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the QX60 (275/45R21 vs. 255/50R20).

The Grand Cherokee L Summit’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the QX60 Luxe/Sensory/Autograph’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Grand Cherokee L Summit offers optional 21-inch wheels. The QX60’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Grand Cherokee L offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the QX60; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The Grand Cherokee L offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The QX60’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Grand Cherokee L offers an optional automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Grand Cherokee L’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The QX60 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Grand Cherokee L’s wheelbase is 7.5 inches longer than on the QX60 (121.7 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

The Grand Cherokee L’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the QX60’s (55.1% to 44.9%). This gives the Grand Cherokee L more stable handling and braking.

The Grand Cherokee L Summit 4x4 handles at .81 G’s, while the QX60 Sensory AWD pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Grand Cherokee L Summit 4x4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the QX60 Sensory AWD (27.6 seconds @ .61 average G’s vs. 28 seconds @ .6 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Grand Cherokee L Laredo/Limited has a 1.8 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the QX60 (8.5 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the Grand Cherokee L to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Grand Cherokee L Overland/Summit’s minimum ground clearance is 4.2 inches higher than on the QX60 (10.9 vs. 6.7 inches).

The front grille of the Grand Cherokee L uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The QX60 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Grand Cherokee L uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The QX60 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Grand Cherokee L has 18.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the QX60 (159.1 vs. 140.6).

The Grand Cherokee L has 2.4 inches more rear headroom, 1.7 inches more rear legroom, 1.6 inches more third row headroom and 2.3 inches more third row legroom than the QX60.

The Grand Cherokee L’s cargo area provides more volume than the QX60.

Pressing a button automatically lowers the Grand Cherokee L Overland/Summit’s second and third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The QX60 doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.

The engine in the Grand Cherokee L is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the QX60. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because there are no rear spark plugs and the accessory belts are in front.

The Grand Cherokee L’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The QX60 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The power windows standard on both the Grand Cherokee L and the QX60 have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the Grand Cherokee L is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The QX60 prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Grand Cherokee L to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The QX60 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Optional air conditioned the front and second row seats keep the Grand Cherokee L’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The QX60 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

The Grand Cherokee L Summit’s Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The QX60 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its December 2021 issue and they ranked the Jeep Grand Cherokee L Limited 4x4 higher than the Infiniti QX60 Sensory AWD.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee outsold the Infiniti QX60 by over 25 to one during the 2021 model year.
