The Silverado 1500’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Tundra’s (6 vs. 5 years).

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Silverado 1500 V8’s fuel efficiency. The Tundra doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 6.2 V8 engine for maximum performance). The Tundra requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Silverado 1500 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Tundra doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

For better traction, the Silverado 1500 has larger standard tires than the Tundra (255/70R17 vs. 245/75R18).

The Silverado 1500’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 70 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Tundra SR’s standard 75 series tires.

The Silverado 1500 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Tundra doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Silverado 1500’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the Tundra’s (8900 vs. 8300 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Toyota Tundra Extended Cab Pickup is only 12000 pounds. The Silverado 1500 Short Box Crew Cab offers up to a 13200 lbs. towing capacity.

The Silverado 1500 Custom/LT/RST/ZR2/High Country has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Tundra doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab bodystyles; the Toyota Tundra isn’t available as a regular cab.
