In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Silverado Limited are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Ram 1500 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the Silverado Limited and the Ram 1500 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Chevrolet Silverado Limited is safer than the Ram 1500:

The Silverado Limited has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The Ram 1500 doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Silverado Limited has a standard 220-amp alternator. The Ram 1500’s standard 160-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Ram vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet 12th in reliability, above the industry average. With 8 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ram is ranked 16th.

The Silverado Limited LTZ/High Country’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Ram 1500 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Silverado Limited’s basic available front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Ram 1500’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

On a hot day the Silverado Limited’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote (optional feature). The driver of the Ram 1500 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Consumer Reports rated the Silverado Limited’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the Ram 1500’s headlights, which were rated “Good.”
