Compare the2022 Honda CR-V HybridVS 2022 Lexus UX

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the CR-V Hybrid. But it costs extra on the UX.

Both the CR-V Hybrid and the UX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available rear parking sensors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Honda CR-V Hybrid is safer than the Lexus UX:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Honda CR-V Hybrid is safer than the Lexus UX:

There are over 4 times as many Honda dealers as there are Lexus dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the CR-V Hybrid’s warranty.

The CR-V Hybrid’s 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 43 more horsepower (212 vs. 169) and 81 lbs.-ft. more torque (232 vs. 151) than the UX 200’s standard 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder. The CR-V Hybrid’s 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 31 more horsepower (212 vs. 181) than the UX 250h’s standard 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Motor Trend the Honda CR-V Hybrid is faster than the Lexus UX:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Honda CR-V Hybrid uses regular unleaded gasoline. The UX requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The CR-V Hybrid has 3.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the UX Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (14 vs. 10.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The CR-V Hybrid has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the UX’s standard fuel tank (14 vs. 12.4 gallons).

The CR-V Hybrid has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The UX doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Honda CR-V Hybrid higher (7 out of 10) than the Lexus UX (6 to 7). This means the CR-V Hybrid produces up to 1.1 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the UX every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the CR-V Hybrid has larger tires than the UX (235/60R18 vs. 225/50R18).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the CR-V Hybrid Touring has standard 19-inch wheels. The UX’s largest wheels are only 18-inches.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the CR-V Hybrid is 1.9 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than on the UX.

The CR-V Hybrid Touring handles at .81 G’s, while the UX 200 pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The front grille of the CR-V Hybrid uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The UX doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The CR-V Hybrid uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The UX doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The CR-V Hybrid has 12.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the UX (102.9 vs. 90.4).

The CR-V Hybrid has .8 inches more front headroom, 1.3 inches more front hip room, 2.9 inches more front shoulder room, 2.8 inches more rear headroom, 7.3 inches more rear legroom and 2.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the UX.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the CR-V Hybrid’s rear seats recline. The UX’s rear seats don’t recline.

The CR-V Hybrid has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the UX (33.2 vs. 17.1 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the CR-V Hybrid’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The UX doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Consumer Reports rated the CR-V Hybrid’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the UX’s headlights, which were rated “Good.”

The CR-V Hybrid will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the CR-V Hybrid will retain 55.97% to 56.86% of its original price after five years, while the UX only retains 49.41% to 50.6%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Honda CR-V Hybrid will be $5994 to $7096 less than for the Lexus UX.

The CR-V was chosen as one of Car and Driver’s “Top Five/10Best Trucks” for 3 of the last 20 years. The UX has never been a Car and Driver “Top Five/10Best Truck” pick.

Motor Trend selected the CR-V as their 2018 Sport Utility of the Year. The UX has never been chosen.

The Honda CR-V outsold the Lexus UX by over 20 to one during the 2021 model year.
