For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Nissan Rogue have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Lexus NX Series doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Rogue are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The NX Series doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Nissan Rogue has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The NX Series doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The Rogue Platinum has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The NX Series doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Both the Rogue and the NX Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Nissan Rogue is safer than the Lexus NX Series:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Nissan Rogue is safer than the Lexus NX Series:

Warranty

There are over 4 times as many Nissan dealers as there are Lexus dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Rogue’s warranty.

Engine

The Rogue’s 1.5 turbo 3-cylinder produces 7 more horsepower (201 vs. 194) and 26 lbs.-ft. more torque (225 vs. 199) than the NX 300h’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

On the EPA test cycle the Rogue gets better mileage than the NX Series:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Nissan Rogue uses regular unleaded gasoline. The NX 300 requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Rogue has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The NX Series doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Nissan Rogue higher (7 out of 10) than the Lexus NX Series (3 to 7). This means the Rogue produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the NX Series every 15,000 miles.

Brakes and Stopping

The Rogue’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the NX Series are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Rogue has larger tires than the NX Series (235/65R17 vs. 225/65R17).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Rogue SL/Platinum has standard 19-inch wheels. The NX Series’ largest wheels are only 18-inches.

The Rogue has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The NX Series doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Rogue’s wheelbase is 1.8 inches longer than on the NX Series (106.5 inches vs. 104.7 inches).

The Rogue Platinum AWD handles at .84 G’s, while the NX 300 F Sport AWD pulls only .76 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Rogue’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the NX Series’ (35.4 feet vs. 37.4 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Rogue has a 1.5 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the NX 300h (8.2 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the Rogue to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Rogue’s minimum ground clearance is 1.3 inches higher than on the NX 300 (8.2 vs. 6.9 inches).

Chassis

The Nissan Rogue may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 550 pounds less than the Lexus NX Series.

Passenger Space

The Rogue has 33.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the NX Series (105.4 vs. 71.6).

The Rogue has 2.9 inches more front headroom, 1.1 inches more rear headroom, 2.4 inches more rear legroom and .6 inches more rear shoulder room than the NX Series.

Cargo Capacity

The Rogue has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the NX Series with its rear seat up (31.6 vs. 17.7 cubic feet). The Rogue has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the NX Series with its rear seat folded (74.1 vs. 54.6 cubic feet).

Towing

The Rogue’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the NX Series’ (1500 vs. 0 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Rogue Platinum offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The NX Series doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Rogue’s power window and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The NX Series’ cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The Rogue’s speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The NX Series’ standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Rogue to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The NX Series doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Both the Rogue and the NX Series offer available heated front seats. The Rogue Platinum also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the NX Series.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Nissan Rogue Platinum has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The NX Series doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Recommendations

The Nissan Rogue outsold the Lexus NX Series by over four to one during the 2021 model year.
