For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Lexus LS are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Lexus LS has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Both the LS and the Polestar 1 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the LS 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Polestar covers the 1. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Polestar 1 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 12 times as many Lexus dealers as there are Polestar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the LS’ warranty.

The LS 500’s standard fuel tank has 5.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Polestar 1 (21.7 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The LS 500h’s standard fuel tank has 6.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Polestar 1 (22.2 vs. 15.9 gallons).

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Lexus LS, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Polestar 1.

The LS 500h has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer a CVT.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the LS can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The LS F-Sport offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the LS uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the Polestar 1, which uses torsion bars in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The LS has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The LS’ height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the LS’ wheelbase is 15 inches longer than on the Polestar 1 (123 inches vs. 108 inches).

For better maneuverability, the LS’ turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the Polestar 1’s (36.8 feet vs. 37.4 feet).

The Lexus LS may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 100 to 500 pounds less than the Polestar 1.

The LS uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the LS a Mid-size car, while the Polestar 1 is rated a Minicompact.

The LS has standard seating for 5 passengers; the Polestar 1 can only carry 4.

The LS has 27.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Polestar 1 (99.4 vs. 72).

The LS has .4 inches more front hip room, 2.5 inches more front shoulder room, 4 inches more rear headroom, 18 inches more rear legroom, 11.8 inches more rear hip room and 6.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the Polestar 1.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the LS’ available rear seats recline. The Polestar 1’s rear seats don’t recline.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the LS has a standard power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button or just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, completely leaving your hands free. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer a power trunk, so its trunk has to be closed manually.

The engine in the LS is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Polestar 1. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The LS’ standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The LS’ standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower all of them with the lock engaged. Polestar does not offer a locking feature on the Polestar 1’s standard power windows.

A power rear sunshade is standard in the LS and power rear side window sunshades are optional to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

Both the LS and the Polestar 1 have standard heated front seats. The LS also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Polestar 1.

The LS has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The LS has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.

The LS offers optional massaging front and rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Polestar 1.

The LS offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Polestar 1 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
