Compare the2022 Jaguar F-PaceVS 2021 Volvo V90

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the F-Pace. But it costs extra on the V90.

Both the F-Pace and the V90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The F-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The V90’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the F-Pace for 2 years and 24,000 miles longer than Volvo pays for maintenance for the V90 (5/60,000 vs. 3/36,000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jaguar vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jaguar 19th in initial quality. With 45 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is ranked 29th.

The F-Pace has more powerful engines than the V90:

As tested in Motor Trend the Jaguar F-Pace is faster than the V90 T6 2.0 turbo/supercharged 4-cylinder:

Both the F-Pace and the V90 have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All F-Paces have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. A disable switch costs extra on the V90.

The F-Pace has 6 gallons more fuel capacity than the V90 (21.9 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the F-Pace’s brake rotors are larger than those on the V90:

For better traction, the F-Pace SVR’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the V90 (F:265/45R21 & R:295/40R21 vs. 255/40R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the F-Pace offers optional 22-inch wheels. The V90’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The F-Pace offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the V90; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The front and rear suspension of the F-Pace uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the V90, which uses transverse leafs springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the F-Pace is 1 inch wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than the track on the V90.

The F-Pace’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the V90’s (53.7% to 46.3%). This gives the F-Pace more stable handling and braking.

The F-Pace SVR handles at .89 G’s, while the V90 T6 AWD Inscription pulls only .88 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The F-Pace SVR executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.3 seconds quicker than the V90 T6 AWD Inscription (25 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 26.3 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the F-Pace has a 2.3 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the V90 (8.4 vs. 6.1 inches), allowing the F-Pace to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The F-Pace is 7.8 inches shorter than the V90, making the F-Pace easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The F-Pace uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The V90 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The F-Pace has 1 inch more front headroom, .2 inches more front shoulder room, .5 inches more rear headroom and 1.3 inches more rear legroom than the V90.

The F-Pace has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the V90 with its rear seat up (31.5 vs. 25.5 cubic feet). The F-Pace has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the V90 with its rear seat folded (69.1 vs. 53.9 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the F-Pace S/R-Dynamic/SVR’s optional rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The V90 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The F-Pace’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the V90’s (5291 vs. 2000 pounds).

A Trailer Stability Assist is standard on the F-Pace, using the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. A trailer sway program costs extra on the V90.

The engine in the F-Pace is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the V90. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The F-Pace (except Base)’s optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The V90 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The F-Pace will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the F-Pace will retain 46.74% to 47.07% of its original price after five years, while the V90 only retains 44.91% to 45.59%.

The Jaguar F-Pace outsold the Volvo 90 Series by almost six to one during the 2021 model year.
