The Eclipse Cross SEL has a standard Multi-View Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The UX only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Eclipse Cross and the UX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is safer than the Lexus UX:

The Eclipse Cross comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The UX’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Mitsubishi’s powertrain warranty covers the Eclipse Cross 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Lexus covers the UX. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the UX ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The Eclipse Cross’ corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the UX’s (7 vs. 6 years).

There are over 34 percent more Mitsubishi dealers than there are Lexus dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Eclipse Cross’ warranty.

The Eclipse Cross’ 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 33 lbs.-ft. more torque (184 vs. 151) than the UX 200’s standard 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross uses regular unleaded gasoline. The UX requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Eclipse Cross AWD’s standard fuel tank has 5.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the UX Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (15.8 vs. 10.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Eclipse Cross FWD’s standard fuel tank has 4.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the UX’s standard fuel tank (16.6 vs. 12.4 gallons).

The Eclipse Cross stops shorter than the UX:

The Eclipse Cross has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the UX; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Eclipse Cross’ wheelbase is 1.2 inches longer than on the UX (105.1 inches vs. 103.9 inches).

The Eclipse Cross has 6.3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the UX (96.7 vs. 90.4).

Both the Eclipse Cross and the UX offer available heated front seats. The Eclipse Cross SEL also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the UX.
