On the EPA test cycle the Telluride 4x4 gets better fuel mileage than the GV80 3.5 turbo V6 AWD (19 city/24 hwy vs. 18 city/23 hwy).

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Kia Telluride uses regular unleaded gasoline. The GV80 requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Telluride is 1.3 inches wider in the front and 1.1 inches wider in the rear than on the GV80.

The Telluride SX 4x4 handles at .80 G’s, while the GV80 Standard AWD pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Kia Telluride may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 650 pounds less than the Genesis GV80.

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the Telluride SX 4x4 is quieter than the GV80 ADVANCED AWD (63 vs. 66 dB).

The Telluride has standard seating for 8 passengers; the GV80 can only carry up to 7.

The Telluride has 15 cubic feet more passenger volume than the GV80 (155 vs. 140).

The Telluride has .7 inches more front headroom, 1.4 inches more front shoulder room, 1.8 inches more rear headroom, 3.7 inches more rear legroom, 3 inches more rear shoulder room, 3.8 inches more third row headroom, 1.1 inches more third row legroom and 2.1 inches more third row shoulder room than the GV80.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist on the Telluride uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The GV80 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Consumer Reports rated the Telluride’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the GV80’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

Insurance will cost less for the Telluride owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Telluride will cost $800 to $5825 less than the GV80 over a five-year period.

The Telluride will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Telluride will retain 49% to 49.43% of its original price after five years, while the GV80 only retains 44.45% to 45.87%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Kia Telluride will be $16009 to $22820 less than for the Genesis GV80.

Consumer Reports® chose the Kia Telluride as its “Top Pick,” the highest scoring vehicle in its category, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Genesis GV80 isn't recommended.

Motor Trend selected the Telluride as their 2020 Sport Utility of the Year. The GV80 has never been chosen.

The Kia Telluride outsold the Genesis GV80 by almost six to one during the 2021 model year.
