When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Sportage’s standard Downhill Brake Control allow you to creep down safely. The Corsair doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

Both the Sportage and the Corsair have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Kia Sportage is safer than the Lincoln Corsair:

The Sportage comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Corsair’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the Sportage 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Lincoln covers the Corsair. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Corsair ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Sportage’s reliability 67 points higher than the Corsair.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Sportage first among compact suvs in their 2021 Initial Quality Study. The Corsair was rated second in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are better in initial quality than Lincoln vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia 6th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 16 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lincoln is ranked 15th, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Lincoln vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia third in reliability, above the industry average. With 9 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lincoln is ranked 9th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Lincoln vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Kia 11 places higher in reliability than Lincoln.

On the EPA test cycle the Sportage 2.4 DOHC 4-cylinder FWD gets better fuel mileage than the Corsair 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder FWD running its gasoline engine (23 city/30 hwy vs. 22 city/29 hwy).

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Kia Sportage uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Corsair with the 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder engine requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Sportage has 5.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair Grand Touring Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (16.4 vs. 11.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Sportage has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The Corsair’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Sportage SX Turbo AWD handles at .83 G’s, while the Corsair Standard AWD pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Sportage SX Turbo AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Corsair Standard AWD (26.8 seconds @ .65 average G’s vs. 27.7 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Sportage’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Corsair’s (34.8 feet vs. 37.1 feet).

The Kia Sportage may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 750 pounds less than the Lincoln Corsair.

The Sportage is 4.2 inches shorter than the Corsair, making the Sportage easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Sportage has .4 inches more rear headroom and .4 inches more rear hip room than the Corsair.

The Sportage has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Corsair with its rear seat up (30.7 vs. 27.6 cubic feet). The Sportage has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Corsair with its rear seat folded (60.1 vs. 57.6 cubic feet).

The Sportage has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Corsair doesn’t offer a locking fuel/charge port door.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Sportage to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Corsair doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

Insurance will cost less for the Sportage owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Sportage will cost $290 less than the Corsair over a five-year period.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Sportage is less expensive to operate than the Corsair because it costs $318 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Sportage than the Corsair, including $161 less for a water pump, $87 less for a muffler, $98 less for front brake pads, $196 less for a starter, $156 less for fuel injection, $270 less for a fuel pump, $39 less for front struts and $444 less for a timing belt/chain.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Kia Sportage will be $8358 to $9411 less than for the Lincoln Corsair.
