The Quattroporte’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the AMG CLS.

Both the Quattroporte and the AMG CLS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

The Quattroporte Modena’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 44 lbs.-ft. more torque (428 vs. 384) than the AMG CLS’ 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid. The Quattroporte Trofeo’s standard 3.8 turbo V8 produces 151 more horsepower (580 vs. 429) and 154 lbs.-ft. more torque (538 vs. 384) than the AMG CLS’ 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid.

The Quattroporte has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The AMG CLS doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Quattroporte Trofeo’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The AMG CLS doesn’t offer launch control.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Quattroporte offers optional 21-inch wheels. The AMG CLS’ largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Quattroporte has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the AMG CLS; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the AMG CLS don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

The Quattroporte has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The AMG CLS’ suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Quattroporte’s wheelbase is 9.1 inches longer than on the AMG CLS (124.8 inches vs. 115.7 inches).

The Maserati Quattroporte may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 350 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG CLS.

The front grille of the Quattroporte uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The AMG CLS doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Quattroporte a Large car, while the AMG CLS is rated a Compact.

The Quattroporte has 21 cubic feet more passenger volume than the AMG CLS (114 vs. 93).

The Quattroporte has 1.7 inches more front headroom, 6.5 inches more front shoulder room and 1.9 inches more rear headroom than the AMG CLS.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Quattroporte has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The AMG CLS doesn’t offer headlight washers.

A power rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades are standard in the Quattroporte to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The AMG CLS doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Quattroporte’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The AMG CLS doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Quattroporte has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the AMG CLS.

The Quattroporte is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The AMG CLS doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
