To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the MC20’s optional rear cross-path warning system uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

Both the MC20 and the Mercedes AMG GT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available blind spot warning systems.

Reliability

The battery on the MC20 is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the MC20’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The Mercedes AMG GT’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

Engine

The MC20’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 98 more horsepower (621 vs. 523) and 44 lbs.-ft. more torque (538 vs. 494) than the Mercedes AMG GT’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The MC20’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 71 more horsepower (621 vs. 550) and 36 lbs.-ft. more torque (538 vs. 502) than the Mercedes AMG GT C’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The MC20’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 44 more horsepower (621 vs. 577) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (538 vs. 516) than the Mercedes AMG GT R’s standard 4.0 turbo V8.

The MC20 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Maserati MC20 higher (5 out of 10) than the Mercedes AMG GT (3). This means the MC20 produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Mercedes AMG GT every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

An eight-speed automatic (SMG) is standard on the Maserati MC20, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the Mercedes AMG GT.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction and acceleration, the MC20 has larger rear tires than the Mercedes AMG GT (305/30R20 vs. 295/30R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the MC20 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Mercedes AMG GT Coupe. The Mercedes AMG GT’s largest wheels are only 19-inches in the front and 20-inches in the rear.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the MC20’s wheelbase is 2.8 inches longer than on the Mercedes AMG GT (106.3 inches vs. 103.5 inches).

The MC20 Coupe handles at 1.08 G’s, while the Mercedes AMG GT Coupe pulls only 1.05 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

Ergonomics

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Maserati MC20 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
