Compare the2022 Jaguar E-PaceVS 2021 Lexus NX Series

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Jaguar E-Pace have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Lexus NX Series doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

Both the E-Pace and NX Series have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The E-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The NX Series’ child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the E-Pace deploy with different levels of force to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The E-Pace’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The NX Series’ airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the E-Pace. But it costs extra on the NX Series.

Both the E-Pace and the NX Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The E-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The NX Series’ 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the E-Pace for 4 years and 50,000 miles longer than Lexus pays for maintenance for the NX Series (5/60,000 vs. 1/10,000).

The E-Pace P250’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 52 more horsepower (246 vs. 194) and 70 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 199) than the NX 300h’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid. The E-Pace P250’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 11 more horsepower (246 vs. 235) and 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 258) than the NX 300’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The E-Pace 300 Sport’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid produces 61 more horsepower (296 vs. 235) and 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (295 vs. 258) than the NX 300’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Consumer Reports the E-Pace P250 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder is faster than the NX 300h :

Regardless of its engine, regenerative brakes improve the E-Pace’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. Lexus only offers a regenerative brake system on the NX Series 300h.

Regardless of its engine, the E-Pace’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. Lexus only offers an automatic engine start/stop system on the NX Series 300h.

The E-Pace has 2.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the NX Series Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (17.7 vs. 14.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The E-Pace has 1.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the NX Series’ standard fuel tank (17.7 vs. 15.9 gallons).

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar E-Pace higher (7 out of 10) than the Lexus NX Series (3 to 7). This means the E-Pace produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the NX Series every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Jaguar E-Pace, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a six-speed automatic is available for the NX Series.

For better stopping power the E-Pace’s brake rotors are larger than those on the NX Series:

The E-Pace’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the NX Series are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the E-Pace has larger standard tires than the NX Series (235/60R18 vs. 225/65R17). The E-Pace’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the NX Series (245/45R21 vs. 235/55R18).

The E-Pace’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the NX Series’ standard 65 series tires. The E-Pace’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the NX Series F Sport’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the E-Pace has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the NX Series. The E-Pace’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 18-inch wheels optional on the NX Series.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the E-Pace is 2.2 inches wider in the front and 2.1 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the NX Series.

The E-Pace SE handles at .83 G’s, while the NX 300 F Sport AWD pulls only .76 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For greater off-road capability the E-Pace has a 1.3 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the NX 300h (8 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the E-Pace to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The E-Pace’s minimum ground clearance is 1.1 inches higher than on the NX 300 (8 vs. 6.9 inches).

The E-Pace is 9.7 inches shorter than the NX Series, making the E-Pace easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the E-Pace SE is quieter than the NX 300 F Sport AWD (68 vs. 69 dB).

The E-Pace has .2 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more rear headroom and .5 inches more rear shoulder room than the NX Series.

The E-Pace has a much larger cargo volume than the NX Series with its rear seat up (22.4 vs. 17.7 cubic feet).

The E-Pace’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the NX Series’ (3968 vs. 0 pounds).

The E-Pace’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the NX Series.

The E-Pace offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The NX Series doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The E-Pace’s power window, power lock and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The NX Series’ power lock and cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The E-Pace’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The NX Series’ standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the E-Pace SE/300 Sport to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The NX Series doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The E-Pace has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the NX Series. The E-Pace SE/300 Sport also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the NX Series.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jaguar E-Pace has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The NX Series doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
