Compare the2022 Jaguar E-PaceVS 2022 BMW X2

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Jaguar E-Pace have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The BMW X2 doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

Both the E-Pace and X2 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The E-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The X2’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the E-Pace deploy with different levels of force to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The E-Pace’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The X2’s airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

The E-Pace has standard Whiplash Reduction System, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Whiplash Reduction System moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The X2 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the E-Pace. But it costs extra on the X2.

The E-Pace SE/300 Sport offers an optional 3D Surround Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The X2 only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The E-Pace’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The X2 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the E-Pace and the X2 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The E-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The X2’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the E-Pace for 2 years and 24,000 miles longer than BMW pays for maintenance for the X2 (5/60,000 vs. 3/36,000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jaguar vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jaguar 19th in initial quality. With 1 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is ranked 20th.

The E-Pace P250’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 18 more horsepower (246 vs. 228) and 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 258) than the X2’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Consumer Reports the E-Pace P250 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder is faster than the BMW X2 2.0:

The E-Pace has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the X2 (17.7 vs. 16.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar E-Pace higher (7 out of 10) than the BMW X2 (3 to 7). This means the E-Pace produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the X2 every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Jaguar E-Pace, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the X2.

For better stopping power the E-Pace’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the X2:

For better traction, the E-Pace has larger standard tires than the X2 (235/60R18 vs. 225/50R18). The E-Pace’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the X2 (245/45R21 vs. 225/50R18).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the E-Pace offers optional 21-inch wheels. The X2’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the E-Pace is 2.4 inches wider in the front and 2.3 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the X2.

For greater off-road capability the E-Pace has a greater minimum ground clearance than the X2 (8 vs. 7.2 inches), allowing the E-Pace to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the E-Pace SE is quieter than the X2 xDrive28i (68 vs. 72 dB).

The E-Pace has .3 inches more front legroom, .5 inches more front shoulder room, 1.3 inches more rear headroom and 1.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the X2.

The E-Pace has a larger cargo volume than the X2 with its rear seat up (22.4 vs. 21.6 cubic feet).

The E-Pace’s cargo area is larger than the X2’s in almost every dimension:

The E-Pace has a 3968 lbs. towing capacity. The X2 has no towing capacity.

The E-Pace has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The X2 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The E-Pace’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The X2 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the E-Pace SE/300 Sport to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The X2 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the E-Pace has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the X2 only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

The E-Pace has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the X2. The E-Pace SE/300 Sport also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the X2.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jaguar E-Pace has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the X2.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its December 2018 issue and they ranked the Jaguar E-Pace SE higher than the BMW X2 xDrive28i.
