The Corsair has standard Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The XT4 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The Corsair’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the XT4.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Corsair has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Only the XT4 Premium Luxury/Sport has a rear cross-path warning system.

The Corsair’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The XT4 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Corsair and the XT4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front-wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all-wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Lincoln Corsair is safer than the Cadillac XT4:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Lincoln Corsair is safer than the Cadillac XT4:

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its available headlight’s “Acceptable” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Corsair the rating of “Top Pick” for 2021, a rating granted to only 136 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The XT4 has not been fully tested, yet.

Reliability

The Corsair has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The XT4 doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

Engine

The Corsair’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 15 more horsepower (250 vs. 235) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (280 vs. 258) than the XT4’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Corsair Grand Touring’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 31 more horsepower (266 vs. 235) than the XT4’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Corsair’s optional 2.3 turbo 4-cylinder produces 60 more horsepower (295 vs. 235) and 52 lbs.-ft. more torque (310 vs. 258) than the XT4’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Consumer Reports the Lincoln Corsair 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder is faster than the Cadillac XT4:

Fuel Economy and Range

The Corsair Grand Touring can drive on battery power alone for up to 37 miles. The XT4 must run its internal combustion engine to move.

Both the Corsair and the XT4 have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All Corsairs have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

Transmission

The Corsair Grand Touring has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The XT4 doesn’t offer a CVT.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Corsair’s turning circle is .9 feet tighter than the XT4’s (37.1 feet vs. 38 feet).

Passenger Space

The Corsair has .1 inches more front headroom, 1.1 inches more front hip room, .1 inches more front shoulder room, .4 inches more rear headroom, 1 inch more rear hip room and 1.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the XT4.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Corsair’s rear seats recline. The XT4’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Corsair has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the XT4 with its rear seat up (27.6 vs. 22.5 cubic feet). The Corsair has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the XT4 with its rear seat folded (57.6 vs. 48.9 cubic feet).

Pressing a button automatically lowers the Corsair’s optional rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The XT4 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Towing

The Corsair’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the XT4’s (3000 vs. 2500 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Corsair’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The XT4’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the Corsair the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the XT4 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Corsair’s exterior PIN entry system. The XT4 doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its OnStar® can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

Consumer Reports rated the Corsair’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the XT4’s headlights, which were rated “Good.”

The XT4 (except Luxury)’s optional cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The Corsair Reserve’s optional adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

Economic Advantages

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Corsair is less expensive to operate than the XT4 because it costs $10 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Corsair than the XT4, including $13 less for a water pump, $242 less for a muffler, $42 less for fuel injection and $88 less for a timing belt/chain.

Recommendations

The Lincoln Corsair outsold the Cadillac XT4 by 61% during the 2021 model year.
