The Durango SRT has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The RS 6 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Durango SRT has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the RS 6’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Durango SRT has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the RS 6.

Both the Durango SRT and the RS 6 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes and lane departure warning systems.

The Dodge Durango SRT weighs 418 to 516 pounds more than the Audi RS 6. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Dodge Durango SRT is safer than the Audi RS 6:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Dodge Durango SRT is safer than the Audi RS 6:

Warranty

Dodge’s powertrain warranty covers the Durango SRT 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Audi covers the RS 6. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the RS 6 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 8 times as many Dodge dealers as there are Audi dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Durango SRT’s warranty.

Reliability

The Dodge Durango SRT’s engine uses a cast iron block for durability, while the RS 6’s engine uses an aluminum block. Aluminum engine blocks are much more prone to warp and crack at high temperatures than cast iron.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 101 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 32nd, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge 17th in reliability. With 2 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 20th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Dodge vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Dodge 4 places higher in reliability than Audi.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Durango SRT has 5.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the RS 6 (24.6 vs. 19.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Durango SRT has larger tires than the RS 6 (295/45R20 vs. 275/35R21). The Durango SRT’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the RS 6 (295/45R20 vs. 285/30R22).

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the Durango SRT can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The RS 6 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Durango SRT’s wheelbase is 4.5 inches longer than on the RS 6 (119.8 inches vs. 115.3 inches).

Chassis

The Durango SRT uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The RS 6 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Durango SRT has standard seating for 7 passengers; the RS 6 can only carry 5.

The Durango SRT has 40.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the RS 6 (141.4 vs. 101).

The Durango SRT has 1.6 inches more front headroom, .7 inches more front shoulder room, .3 inches more rear headroom, 1.2 inches more rear legroom and 1.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the RS 6.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Durango SRT’s middle row seats recline. The RS 6’s rear seats don’t recline.

Towing

The Durango SRT has a 8700 lbs. towing capacity. The RS 6 has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Durango SRT uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The RS 6 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

The Durango SRT has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The RS 6 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Durango SRT has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The RS 6 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Economic Advantages

Insurance will cost less for the Durango SRT owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Durango SRT will cost $8825 to $9620 less than the RS 6 over a five-year period.

The Durango SRT will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Durango SRT will retain 54.13% to 54.52% of its original price after five years, while the RS 6 only retains 47.32%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Dodge Durango SRT will be $33855 to $46630 less than for the Audi RS 6.

Recommendations

The Dodge Durango outsold the Audi A6/S6/RS 6 by almost six to one during the 2021 model year.
