To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Outlander PHEV. But it costs extra on the Mustang Mach-E.

Both the Outlander PHEV and the Mustang Mach-E have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Outlander PHEV comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Mustang Mach-E’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Mitsubishi’s powertrain warranty covers the Outlander PHEV 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Ford covers the Mustang Mach-E. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Mustang Mach-E ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The Outlander PHEV’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Mustang Mach-E’s (7 vs. 5 years).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Mitsubishi vehicles are better in initial quality than Ford vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Mitsubishi third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 18 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ford is ranked 14th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Mitsubishi vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Mitsubishi 13th in reliability, above the industry average. With 14 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ford is ranked 22nd.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Mitsubishi vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Mitsubishi 2 places higher in reliability than Ford.

The Outlander PHEV’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Mustang Mach-E’s standard 60 series tires.

For better maneuverability, the Outlander PHEV’s turning circle is 2.5 feet tighter than the Mustang Mach-E’s (35.6 feet vs. 38.1 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Outlander PHEV has a 1.5 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Mustang Mach-E (7.3 vs. 5.8 inches), allowing the Outlander PHEV to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 600 pounds less than the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

The Outlander PHEV has 1.7 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more rear headroom and .1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Mustang Mach-E.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Outlander PHEV’s rear seats recline. The Mustang Mach-E’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Outlander PHEV has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Mustang Mach-E with its rear seat folded (66.6 vs. 64.4 cubic feet).

The Outlander PHEV has a 1500 lbs. towing capacity. The Mustang Mach-E has no towing capacity.

The Outlander PHEV has a standard locking fuel and charge port door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t offer a locking charge port.

The Outlander PHEV GT has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Mitsubishi Outlander outsold the Ford Mustang Mach-E by 43% during the 2021 model year.
