Both the Range Rover Sport and AMG GLB have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Sport has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The AMG GLB’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Range Rover Sport’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the AMG GLB.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Range Rover Sport’s optional rear cross-path warning system uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

Both the Range Rover Sport and the AMG GLB have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport weighs 1001 to 1561 pounds more than the Mercedes AMG GLB. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Range Rover Sport’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the AMG GLB’s (6 vs. 5 years).

The Range Rover Sport P360’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 53 more horsepower (355 vs. 302) and 70 lbs.-ft. more torque (365 vs. 295) than the AMG GLB’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Range Rover Sport P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 93 more horsepower (395 vs. 302) and 110 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 295) than the AMG GLB’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Range Rover Sport’s optional 5.0 supercharged V8 produces 216 more horsepower (518 vs. 302) and 166 lbs.-ft. more torque (461 vs. 295) than the AMG GLB’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Range Rover Sport SVR’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8 produces 273 more horsepower (575 vs. 302) and 221 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 295) than the AMG GLB’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

Regenerative brakes improve the Range Rover Sport’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Range Rover Sport has 11.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the AMG GLB (27.5 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the Range Rover Sport’s brake rotors are larger than those on the AMG GLB:

For better traction, the Range Rover Sport’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the AMG GLB (275/40R22 vs. 255/40R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Sport offers optional 22-inch wheels. The AMG GLB’s largest wheels are only 21-inches.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard full size spare (not available on 7-Passenger/P400e) so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the AMG GLB; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the AMG GLB don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

The Range Rover Sport V8 has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the Range Rover Sport uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the AMG GLB, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Range Rover Sport’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Range Rover Sport’s wheelbase is 3.7 inches longer than on the AMG GLB (115.1 inches vs. 111.4 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Range Rover Sport is 2.9 inches wider in the front and 3.6 inches wider in the rear than on the AMG GLB.

The Range Rover Sport has 4.8 inches more front shoulder room and 4.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the AMG GLB.

The Range Rover Sport’s cargo area provides more volume than the AMG GLB.

The Range Rover Sport’s cargo area is larger than the AMG GLB’s in almost every dimension:

The Range Rover Sport has a standard third row seat which folds flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer seats that fold into the floor.

A control in the cargo area automatically lowers or raises the Range Rover Sport’s third row seats, to make changing between cargo and passengers easier. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The Range Rover Sport has a 7716 lbs. towing capacity. The AMG GLB has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the Range Rover Sport uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The engine in the Range Rover Sport is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the AMG GLB. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover Sport has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the AMG GLB only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Sport has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer headlight washers.

Both the Range Rover Sport and the AMG GLB offer optional heated front seats. The Range Rover Sport also offers optional heated second row seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated second row seats aren’t available in the AMG GLB.

Optional air conditioned the front and second row seats keep the Range Rover Sport’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The AMG GLB doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.
