The Range Rover Sport’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The SQ5 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Range Rover Sport and the SQ5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport weighs 582 to 1142 pounds more than the Audi SQ5. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Land Rover vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Land Rover 26th in initial quality. With 40 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 32nd.

The Range Rover Sport P360’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 6 more horsepower (355 vs. 349) than the SQ5’s 3.0 turbo V6. The Range Rover Sport P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 46 more horsepower (395 vs. 349) and 36 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 369) than the SQ5’s 3.0 turbo V6. The Range Rover Sport’s optional 5.0 supercharged V8 produces 169 more horsepower (518 vs. 349) and 92 lbs.-ft. more torque (461 vs. 369) than the SQ5’s 3.0 turbo V6. The Range Rover Sport SVR’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8 produces 226 more horsepower (575 vs. 349) and 147 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 369) than the SQ5’s 3.0 turbo V6.

The Range Rover Sport has 9 gallons more fuel capacity than the SQ5 (27.5 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better traction, the Range Rover Sport’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the SQ5 (275/40R22 vs. 255/45R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Sport offers optional 22-inch wheels. The SQ5’s largest wheels are only 21-inches.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard full size spare (not available on 7-Passenger/P400e) so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the SQ5; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The Range Rover Sport V8 has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The SQ5 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the Range Rover Sport uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the SQ5, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Range Rover Sport’s wheelbase is 4.1 inches longer than on the SQ5 (115.1 inches vs. 111 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Range Rover Sport is 3 inches wider in the front and 3.1 inches wider in the rear than on the SQ5.

The Range Rover Sport SVR handles at .89 G’s, while the SQ5 Prestige pulls only .88 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Range Rover Sport SVR executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the SQ5 Prestige (25.2 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 25.7 seconds @ .73 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Sport SVR has a 2.6 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the SQ5 (10.8 vs. 8.2 inches), allowing the Range Rover Sport to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Range Rover Sport’s minimum ground clearance is 2.7 inches higher than on the SQ5 (10.9 vs. 8.2 inches).

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the Range Rover Sport uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The SQ5 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The SQ5 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Range Rover Sport’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the SQ5.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover Sport has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the SQ5 only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

Optional air conditioned the front and second row seats keep the Range Rover Sport’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The SQ5 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the SQ5.

The Range Rover Sport offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The SQ5 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
