Safety

Both the Range Rover and AMG GLE have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The AMG GLE’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Range Rover’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the AMG GLE.

Both the Range Rover and the AMG GLE have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The Range Rover’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the AMG GLE’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Range Rover gets better mileage than the AMG GLE:

MPG

Range Rover

AWD

5.0 supercharged V8

16 city/21 hwy

P360 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cyl. Hybrid

18 city/23 hwy

P400 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cyl. Hybrid

18 city/23 hwy

AMG GLE

AWD

3.0 turbo 6-cyl. Hybrid

18 city/22 hwy

4.0 turbo V8 Hybrid

15 city/19 hwy

The Range Rover has 5 gallons more fuel capacity than the AMG GLE (27.5 vs. 22.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Tires and Wheels

The Range Rover offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the AMG GLE; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

Chassis

The front grille of the Range Rover Diesel uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The AMG GLE doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

Flexibility is maximized at the game, campground or a drive-in theatre in the Range Rover SVAutobiography Long Wheelbase when its optional tailgating rear seats are deployed, allowing people to sit facing out of the tailgate. (Do not use while vehicle is in motion.) The AMG GLE doesn’t offer tailgating seats.

Cargo Capacity

The Range Rover has a much larger cargo volume than the AMG GLE with its rear seat up (34.5 vs. 33.3 cubic feet).

The Range Rover SVAutobiography’s optional sliding cargo floor makes loading and unloading cargo easier and safer. The AMG GLE doesn’t offer a sliding load floor.

The Range Rover’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the tailgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The AMG GLE’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

Towing

The Range Rover’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the AMG GLE’s (7716 vs. 3858 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Range Rover has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The AMG GLE doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover has a standard rear speed-sensitive intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the AMG GLE only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The AMG GLE doesn’t offer headlight washers.

Both the Range Rover and the AMG GLE offer available massaging front seats. The Range Rover also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging second row seats aren’t available in the AMG GLE.
