Both the Discovery Sport and X4 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The X4’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Land Rover Discovery Sport will be $3301 to $13184 less than for the BMW X4.
