Compare the2022 Infiniti QX55VS 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX55 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The QX55 has standard Rear Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Stelvio doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the QX55. But it costs extra on the Stelvio.

The QX55 Essential/Sensory has a standard Around View® Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Stelvio only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the QX55 and the Stelvio have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The QX55 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Stelvio’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 10,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the QX55 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Alfa Romeo covers the Stelvio. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Stelvio ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The QX55’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Stelvio’s (7 vs. 5 years).

There are over 41 percent more Infiniti dealers than there are Alfa Romeo dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the QX55’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are better in initial quality than Alfa Romeo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 21st in initial quality. With 34 more problems per 100 vehicles, Alfa Romeo is ranked 28th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than Alfa Romeo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 23rd in reliability. With 59 more problems per 100 vehicles, Alfa Romeo is ranked 32nd.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than Alfa Romeo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Infiniti 18 places higher in reliability than Alfa Romeo.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Infiniti QX55 higher (6 out of 10) than the Alfa Romeo Stelvio (3). This means the QX55 produces up to 23.4 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Stelvio every 15,000 miles.

The QX55 has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a CVT.

For better traction, the QX55 has larger tires than the Stelvio (255/45R20 vs. 235/60R18).

The QX55’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Stelvio’s standard 60 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the QX55 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Stelvio.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the QX55 can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Stelvio doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For better maneuverability, the QX55’s turning circle is 2.1 feet tighter than the Stelvio’s (36.4 feet vs. 38.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the QX55 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Stelvio (8.6 vs. 8.1 inches), allowing the QX55 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The QX55 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Stelvio doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The QX55 has 2.6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Stelvio (100.2 vs. 97.6).

The QX55 has 3 inches more front legroom, .4 inches more front shoulder room, 6.8 inches more rear legroom and 1.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Stelvio.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the QX55’s rear seats recline. The Stelvio’s rear seats don’t recline.

The QX55 has a much larger cargo volume than the Stelvio with its rear seat up (26.9 vs. 18.5 cubic feet).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than Alfa Romeo. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti third in service department satisfaction. With a 90% lower rating, Alfa Romeo is ranked 32nd.

The QX55 offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the QX55 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Stelvio can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

When the QX55 Essential/Sensory is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Stelvio’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the QX55 Essential/Sensory keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Stelvio doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.
