Compare the2022 Infiniti Q60VS 2022 BMW 2 Series

The Q60 Red Sport 400’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The 2 Series doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the Q60 and the 2 Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, collision warning systems, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all-wheel drive, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Q60 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The 2 Series’ 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 10,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the Q60 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than BMW covers the 2 Series. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the 2 Series ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than BMW vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Infiniti 1 place higher in reliability than BMW.

The Q60’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 45 more horsepower (300 vs. 255) and 1 lbs.-ft. more torque (295 vs. 294) than the 230i’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Q60 Red Sport 400’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 18 more horsepower (400 vs. 382) than the M240i’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder.

The Q60 has 6.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the 2 Series (20 vs. 13.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better traction, the Q60 has larger standard tires than the 2 Series (255/40R19 vs. 225/45R18). The Q60 Red Sport 400’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 2 Series (F:255/35R20 & R:275/30R20 vs. F:225/40R19 & R:255/35R19).

The Q60’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 230i’s standard 45 series tires. The Q60 Red Sport 400’s 255/35R20 front and 275/30R20 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the 2 Series’ optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Q60 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the 230i. The Q60 Red Sport 400’s 20-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels on the M240i.

The Q60 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The 2 Series doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Q60’s wheelbase is 4.3 inches longer than on the 2 Series (112.2 inches vs. 107.9 inches).

To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the Q60 has liquid-filled engine mounts. The liquid helps further dampen engine harshness. The 2 Series uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.

The Q60 Luxe/Sport/Red Sport 400 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The 2 Series doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Q60 has 1.3 inches more front legroom, .2 inches more rear legroom and .3 inches more rear shoulder room than the 2 Series.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than BMW. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti third in service department satisfaction. With a 21% lower rating, BMW is ranked 8th.

The Q60’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them. BMW does not offer a locking feature on the 2 Series’ power windows.

To shield the driver’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side window, the Q60 has a standard extendable sun visor. The 2 Series doesn’t offer extendable visors.
