Compare the2022 Genesis G90VS 2021 Lexus LS Series

The G90 has standard Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The LS Series doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the G90 and the LS Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available all wheel drive.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the G90 its highest rating: “Top Pick Plus” for 2021, a rating granted to only 73 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The LS Series has not been tested, yet.

The G90 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The LS Series’ 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G90 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Lexus covers the LS Series. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the LS Series ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The G90’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the LS Series’ (7 vs. 6 years).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the G90 for 2 years and 26000 miles longer than Lexus pays for maintenance for the LS Series (3/36,000 vs. 1/10,000).

There are over 38 percent more Genesis dealers than there are Lexus dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the G90’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the G90’s reliability 17 points higher than the LS Series.

The G90 3.3T’s standard 3.3 turbo V6 produces 11 more horsepower (365 vs. 354) and 26 lbs.-ft. more torque (376 vs. 350) than the LS 500h’s standard 3.5 DOHC V6 hybrid. The G90 5.0’s standard 5.0 DOHC V8 produces 4 more horsepower (420 vs. 416) than the LS 500’s standard 3.4 turbo V6.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Genesis G90 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The LS Series requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

For better traction and acceleration, the G90 has larger rear tires than the LS Series (275/40R19 vs. 245/50R19).

The G90’s 245/45R19 front and 275/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the LS Series’ standard 50 series tires.

The G90 has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the LS Series; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the G90’s wheelbase is 1.4 inches longer than on the LS Series (124.4 inches vs. 123 inches).

The G90 3.3T AWD handles at .85 G’s, while the LS 500h AWD pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The G90 3.3T AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the LS 500h AWD (26.1 seconds @ .72 average G’s vs. 27 seconds @ .65 average G’s).

The design of the Genesis G90 amounts to more than styling. The G90 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .27 Cd. That is lower than the LS Series (.27 to .3) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the G90 get better fuel mileage.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the G90 a Large car, while the LS Series is rated a Mid-size.

The G90 has 13.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the LS Series (113.2 vs. 99.4).

The G90 has 3.8 inches more front headroom, 5.3 inches more front legroom, 1 inch more front hip room, .3 inches more front shoulder room, .7 inches more rear headroom and 1.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the LS Series.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis G90 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The LS Series doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its March 2018 issue and the Genesis G90 3.3T AWD won out over the Lexus LS 500 AWD.
