Compare the2022 Genesis G90VS 2022 Porsche Taycan

The G90 has standard Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Taycan doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The G90 has standard Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist-Reverse that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Taycan doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The G90 has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the Taycan’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the G90 has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the Taycan.

The G90’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Taycan doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the G90 and the Taycan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and available all wheel drive.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the G90 its highest rating: “Top Pick Plus” for 2021, a rating granted to only 73 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Taycan has not been tested, yet.

The G90 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Taycan’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G90 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Porsche covers the Taycan. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Taycan ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the G90 for 1 year and 12000 miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the Taycan (3/36,000 vs. 2/24,000).

There are over 75 percent more Genesis dealers than there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the G90’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Porsche vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis 7th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 15 more problems per 100 vehicles, Porsche is ranked 15th, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Porsche vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Genesis 4 places higher in reliability than Porsche.

The G90 3.3T’s maximum EPA estimated driving range on a full tank of fuel is 525.6 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The Taycan’s range is only 227 miles, after which the minimum recharge time is 22 minutes for only a 80% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a conventional charging station can take up to 11 hours.

For more complete vehicle control the G90 has a manually controlled automatic, with the available convenience of an automatic transmission and the complete gear control of a manual transmission without the inconvenience of a clutch. A manually controlled automatic allows the driver to eliminate unwanted shifts and maximize engine braking by down shifting while cornering. The Taycan doesn’t offer a transmission that allows complete gear control.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Genesis G90, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a 2-speed automatic is available for the Taycan.

For better traction, the G90 has larger front tires than the Taycan (F:245/45R19 & R:275/40R19 vs. F:225/55R19 & R:275/45R19).

The G90’s 245/45R19 front and 275/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Taycan’s standard 55 series front and 45 series rear tires.

The G90 has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Taycan; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the G90’s wheelbase is 10.2 inches longer than on the Taycan (124.4 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

For excellent aerodynamics, the G90 has standard flush composite headlights. The Taycan has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The G90 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Taycan doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the G90 3.3T is quieter than the Taycan Turbo S (63 vs. 65 dB).

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the G90 a Large car, while the Taycan is rated a Compact.

The G90 has 25.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Taycan (113.2 vs. 88).

The G90 has 2.9 inches more front headroom, 4.5 inches more front legroom, 2.7 inches more front shoulder room, 1.2 inches more rear headroom, 5.6 inches more rear legroom and 4.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the Taycan.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the G90 5.0’s rear seats recline. The Taycan’s rear seats don’t recline.

With its sedan body style, valet key and remote trunk release lockout, the G90 offers cargo security. The Taycan’s non-lockable folding seat and non-lockable remote release defeat cargo security.

The G90’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Taycan.

The G90’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Taycan’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the G90 has standard extendable sun visors. The Taycan doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A power rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades are standard in the G90 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Taycan doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The G90 has standard front air conditioned seats and the G90 5.0 also has them in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Taycan doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The G90 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Taycan.
