The G90’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The 300 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Genesis G90 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The 300 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The G90 has standard Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist-Reverse that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The 300 doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The G90’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the 300 and is only available on 300 Touring L/S.

The G90 has a standard Surround View Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The 300 only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The G90 has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. Only the 300 Touring L/S offers a blind spot warning system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the G90 has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Only the 300 Touring L/S has a rear cross-path warning system.

The G90’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The 300 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the G90 and the 300 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available all wheel drive.

A significantly tougher test than their original offset frontal crash test, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety does 40 MPH small overlap frontal offset crash tests. In this test, where only 25% of the total width of the vehicle is struck, results indicate that the Genesis G90 is safer than the 300:

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the G90 its highest rating: “Top Pick Plus” for 2021, a rating granted to only 73 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The 300 is not even a standard “Top Pick.”

Warranty

The G90 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The 300’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G90 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Chrysler covers the 300. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the 300 ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The G90’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the 300’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the G90 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Chrysler doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the 300.

Reliability

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the G90 have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the 5.7 V8 in the 300.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the G90 has a standard 950-amp battery. The 300’s 730-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Chrysler vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis 7th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 103 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chrysler is ranked 33rd, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Chrysler vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis 8th in reliability, above the industry average. With 64 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chrysler is ranked 29th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Chrysler vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Genesis 14 places higher in reliability than Chrysler.

Fuel Economy and Range

The G90 has 3.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the 300 (21.9 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the G90’s brake rotors are larger than those on the 300:

The G90’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the 300 are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the G90 has larger tires than the 300 (F:245/45R19 & R:275/40R19 vs. 215/65R17).

The G90’s 245/45R19 front and 275/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 300 Touring’s standard 65 series tires. The G90’s tires are lower profile than the 300’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the G90 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the 300 Touring.

Suspension and Handling

The G90 has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The 300’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the G90’s wheelbase is 4.4 inches longer than on the 300 (124.4 inches vs. 120 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the G90 is 1.2 inches wider in the front and .7 inches wider in the rear than on the 300.

The G90 3.3T AWD handles at .85 G’s, while the 300 pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The G90 3.3T AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.1 seconds quicker than the 300 (26.1 seconds vs. 27.2 seconds).

Chassis

The design of the Genesis G90 amounts to more than styling. The G90 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .27 Cd. That is significantly lower than the 300 (.32) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the G90 get better fuel mileage.

The G90 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The 300 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the G90 3.3T is quieter than the 300S:

Passenger Space

The G90 has 6.9 cubic feet more passenger volume than the 300 (113.2 vs. 106.3).

The G90 has 2.5 inches more front headroom, 4.5 inches more front legroom, .3 inches more front hip room, .1 inches more rear headroom and .2 inches more rear shoulder room than the 300.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the G90 5.0’s rear seats recline. The 300’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the G90 easier. The G90’s trunk lift-over height is 28.3 inches, while the 300’s liftover is 30.1 inches.

With its sedan body style, valet key and remote trunk release lockout, the G90 offers cargo security. The 300’s non-lockable folding seat and non-lockable remote release defeat cargo security.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the G90’s power trunk can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The G90’s power trunk can also be opened or closed by pressing a button. The 300 doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Genesis service is better than Chrysler. J.D. Power ranks Genesis 9th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 46% lower rating, Chrysler is ranked 29th.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the 300 Touring L/S, the G90 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The G90’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the 300, and is not available on all models.

The G90 has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The 300 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The G90’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The 300’s parking brake has to released manually.

The G90’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The 300’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

The G90’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The 300’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The G90’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The 300’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The G90’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the 300’s headlights are rated “Poor.”

A power rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades are standard in the G90 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The 300 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The G90 has standard front air conditioned seats and the G90 5.0 also has them in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The 300 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The G90 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the 300.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis G90 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the 300.
